This one was a little tough to write. I'm used to being the one who tries to do for someone else, not used to receiving something like this.
I received a very generous package in the mail from one of our brothers, a very fine and beautiful pipe. The gentleman had offered to give it to me some time ago but an inner mechanism fired within me and I thanked him but declined - it was simply too valuable. I'm not good at accepting something like that, an item that certainly set the gentleman back a good bit of coin. Being a struggling family man myself I just couldn't, too valuable, and I suggested that he sell the pipe if he didn't want to keep it. He sent me a PM again a few days ago telling me that he had hung on to the pipe hoping that I'd change my mind and he again said how he wanted me to have it. I could not decline again. I just couldn't do it. At some point pride has to be swallowed and in friendship you accept a gift that someone really wants you to have. It would be foolish and rude and a poor showing of friendship to say no, and this guy had indeed become not only one of the nicest Brothers I've met on these forums but a man I call a friend, even though we've never met face to face.
A Castello 4K Collection, looks like it's hardly been smoked. It is beautiful and mint and is a wonderful smoker. The man knew my passion for Castellos. This pipe is as fine as any I own. It feels wonderful in the hand and is comfortable to smoke even though it is rather large - I'm surprised in fact that it was not graded a 'G', as it's bowl is larger in volume than a Dunhill ODA. "You'll soon get a 2 hour smoke from it" he told me, and he's right. I loaded it last night with Peretti's BPC and again today with Bluegrass Melody, and this last bowlful went 1 hour 45 minutes. Yep, I will get a 2 hour smoke out of it, and even after 1 hr 45 mins it was smoking very dry and a lone pipe cleaner came out very clean and very dry. A superb, fantastic smoke. Amazing.
Words do not convey how I feel, both for the gesture and for love of this pipe. All I can say is, thank you Midnight Blues, thank you very much. I'm humbled, but I'm very happy 8)
