This one was a little tough to write. I'm used to being the one who tries to do for someone else, not used to receiving something like this.

I received a very generous package in the mail from one of our brothers, a very fine and beautiful pipe. The gentleman had offered to give it to me some time ago but an inner mechanism fired within me and I thanked him but declined - it was simply too valuable. I'm not good at accepting something like that, an item that certainly set the gentleman back a good bit of coin. Being a struggling family man myself I just couldn't, too valuable, and I suggested that he sell the pipe if he didn't want to keep it. He sent me a PM again a few days ago telling me that he had hung on to the pipe hoping that I'd change my mind and he again said how he wanted me to have it. I could not decline again. I just couldn't do it. At some point pride has to be swallowed and in friendship you accept a gift that someone really wants you to have. It would be foolish and rude and a poor showing of friendship to say no, and this guy had indeed become not only one of the nicest Brothers I've met on these forums but a man I call a friend, even though we've never met face to face.

A Castello 4K Collection, looks like it's hardly been smoked. It is beautiful and mint and is a wonderful smoker. The man knew my passion for Castellos. This pipe is as fine as any I own. It feels wonderful in the hand and is comfortable to smoke even though it is rather large - I'm surprised in fact that it was not graded a 'G', as it's bowl is larger in volume than a Dunhill ODA. "You'll soon get a 2 hour smoke from it" he told me, and he's right. I loaded it last night with Peretti's BPC and again today with Bluegrass Melody, and this last bowlful went 1 hour 45 minutes. Yep, I will get a 2 hour smoke out of it, and even after 1 hr 45 mins it was smoking very dry and a lone pipe cleaner came out very clean and very dry. A superb, fantastic smoke. Amazing.

Words do not convey how I feel, both for the gesture and for love of this pipe. All I can say is, thank you Midnight Blues, thank you very much. I'm humbled, but I'm very happy 8)

Wow, what a gracious gift! :!:

I am very glad I found this place as I embark on my latest adventure of pipe smoking!

A priceless gift and a heartwarming story. Both of you are blessed to have this kind of friendship. Thanks for sharing Puff. :sunny:

When nice things like that happen it sure gives you a feeling of warmth and gratefullness(if there is a word like that but I think you know what I mean)

Holy crap! I was having fun trying to guess who it was that sent it to you. First thought was it had to be TJ, then you said never met... hmmm, Yak??? Well I'll be damned it was MB! How fricken cool. Very nice of you man.

Funny thing is I had so many people to choose from that are capable of such things. I'm still in awe over my secret santa gift.

A class act for sure is our Mr. Blues.

Amid all the trouble in the world, the day to day struggle with even simple things, paying bills and trying to keep head above water, it's refreshing to know there are people out there that will lift you up and shake you out of "the daily grind" with generosity and sincerity.
A wonderful gift has been passed between two brothers, friendship,,,and the pipe will be a symbol of that friendship well into the future.

I don't want to embarrass him or anything but I really gotta go on record here and say that Danny (alias Midnight Blues) is one of the finest folks that I've ever met on this or any other board. Over a year ago I was just getting into classic wetshaving. Danny answered my numerous questions and then floored me beyond belief when he sent me my first great razor a vintage Gillette adjustable in it's original case! I use it several times a week and ALWAYS think of the generosity of it's sender when I do! If you looked up "good guy" in the BoB's dictionary a pic of Danny would certainly be present.

Dan,

Thanks again for perpetuating the sprit of generosity so prevelent in our hobby and on this board! You've taken "pay it forward" to new levels. You can rest assured that every good deed you do causes others to do one in return. Well done sir!

Jim,
That pipe is purely indicative of your own personal style in briar. I have no doubt that it will be a highly treasured item for you always. You've done your own fair share of "paying it forward" too. I can recall a secret santa some years back where some lucky upstart received a BBB birth year X-Mas pipe. I smoke it every year in December. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I've ever received....

The Spirit runs deep here. Many, many generous brothers who feel the call to create special memories and treasures for others. I've always been impressed with this group. This board took off quickly and has always had the spirit of Brotherhood behind it. Damned impressive, these fellows here at BOB 8)

The Brothers never fail to amaze, impress, humble, astound, amuse, and always seem to go above and beyond any perceived expections. A finer group of gentleman would be difficult to find. I for one am thankful to be part of such a refreshing and jocular gaggle of pipesters!

And Puffy D -- that sure is a fine looking Castello! Here's to the Brothers, and may all your smokes be memorable!

Damn Fine Play there Midnight Blues!
Makes me happy to have stumbled onto this place, helps to reinvigorate in me the fact that there is some goodness out there, in a seemingly dark world. :flower:
You fellers almost put a tear in my eye this morning.

Just want to take a moment to thank everyone for the kind words, I never intended to be "outed " for my deeds. I'm pleased beyond belief that Jim excepted my offer, the joy is in the giving......

Dan

Well done! The world needs a lot more of that "paying it forward" philosophy.

Well done Midnight Blues, you are a true Brother of the Briar. Congratulations Puff Daddy, I'm sure you will cherish and remember this gift every time you light up with one of your popular blends in it.
