Brothers,

As you can see from my profile, my 40 years as a Pipeman have been peppered with a taste for tobaccos that for one reason or another have become discontinued or difficult to come by...

"Amphora"

"Balkan Sobranie" (The Original).

"Field and Stream"

"Skallorna"

"Penzance"

Hmm. I see this as a hazard of time.

Would be interested to read what favorites of yours are scarce or no longer available.

Best Regards,

Sail Yellow (I know it is available again but either my taste buds have changed or the blend is different)
Blue Boar Rough Cut
Amphora Red
Never got around to any of the "Sail" blends. Amphora Regular (Brown) was the one I liked.

For me it would be:
Balkan Sobranie 759
Sulivan's Gentlemans Mixture
Sobranie Virginia No. 10
Bengal Slices from the mid 70's back

759, that's the one!

I couldn't remember that to save my life... thanks!

Scottish Ribbon, blended by Ed Burak of the Connoisseur Pipe Shop in NYC.

Still readily available in north of the border. I pick up a pouch or two whenever I'm in Montreal.

Monbla,

Always wanted to give those Bengal Slices a try...

There was a small tobacco store when I was in college in Marblehead, MA which had a sublime Scottish blend. Not sure what happened to the store but I still remember those all night smokes preparing for exams.

This is the essence of something true for every pipe-smoker.

Monbla,

Back then when I started smoking, (1969) we didn't "cellar/age" our tobacco, instead one wanted "fresh" tobacco so we smoked it when we bought it. The Bengal Slices had ALOT of Latakia and was very strong "fresh" ( just what one wanted   ) but as with all Latakia, it would have mellowed out if "cellared: for several years and not been the same as "fresh"
