Warmest greeting from Vietnam...!
Hello everyone, my name is Quang, I come across this fantastic Forum two or three weeks before and after hanging around reading almost topics here and there, and now I have found it so friendly that can't help jumping in saying hello to all of wonderful people here. English is only my second language so if anything that make you hard to understand please forgive and fell free to ask me again.
To me smoking pipe is not only a hobby but a passion, a family tradition, my grandpa and my father smoked a pipe and now I'm doing it. It's great to be a member of BoB...!

Welcome, sir.

Glad to have you aboard and I look forward to talking with you. 8)

Welcome to the forums, what a great legacy you are carrying on form your father and grandfather!

I am always embarrassed a bit when a person starts off apologizing for his English. Doing it to the most monolingual nation on earth is kind of silly -- at least at this level.

I appreciate you willingness to share thoughts here by devoting extra time to accommodating our disability. Thank you.

Thanks for the nice words, I'm not sure about legacy that I inherit from. Just remember my grandpa was a heavy and chain smoker: except for when he sleeping or eating you did not see the pipe on his mouth, father was about the same. During the war time we did not have any strict ban of smoking, so people smoked all the time and anywhere. When the war ended (1975) and the communist government took control the country, everything gone and so was the pipe tobacco. Until recently (about 2005) the imported tobacco has been resumed meaning we have about 30 year-discontinueing.

Hello Quang, very nice to meet you and welcome to BoB, that is a marvellous pipe you have in your avatar, it looks very good on you I must say, enjoy your times here with us.

Welcome and don't worry about the language thing. Your English at its worst is way better than my Vietnamese at its best.

Welcome aboard Brother, look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome Quang. So good to have someone from such a beautiful country. I hope you will find us all to be warm and accommodating as your countrymen are. If you have questions please feel free to ask. I'm sure someone here will be more than happy to answer. What part of Vietnam do you live in? :)

Welcome to BoB!

Where do you get tobacco in Vietnam? Do stores sell it, or do you order online?

Thank you all for the cosy atmosphere which you guys created for me, I m feeling at home now in this Forum, I have been living in Saigon, the South of VN, for the last 56 years. My father used to be a high ranking army official in the former government, he had escaped the country when the war ended and lived in San Hose, California until he died at 77 (with that family background you can imagine how hard I made getting by for my life...).Actually I m legally now in WA, the evergreen state, doing application for my immigration here, until that application is approved, I m still 100% Vietnamese, am I...?
It is, Vietnam is a very beautiful country and I love it so much and this will be never changed wherever I m or whoever I will become.

In VN we always get pipes and tobacco ordering online from outside countries. The local stores do sell them but not many choices plus much more expensive. just a few pipes from Dr Grabow, Peterson, ...Tobacco is only two brands available: Half & Half (my father favorite) and Borkum Riff. Pipes smoking now in VN is not popular as it used to be even though 40% of male do the smoking now (cigarette). Thing I like most is you can smoke everywhere, public places always has smoking areas..even when I smoke outside people look at me strangely....and sometimes some people came to me asking what is it in my mouth with smoke and very good smell...?
