SmokeShow here.
Been a cigar smoker for 20+ years and decided to make a change to pipes. I am currently on Mark Balkovec's waiting list for my very first pipe. I can't wait! I hope to join in some discussion and look forward to meeting and talking with you folks down the road.

Peace.

Welcome fellow cigar smoker turned pipe smoker! Hope you enjoy the new hobby!

Welcome to a great forum, and to pipe smoking.

I'm new to the forum, but not to pipe smoking. I have been smoking pipes and cigars for nearly 20 years (started with the pipe, added cigars a year later).

As has already been suggested, you'll want more than one pipe. You need to rest them a few days after you smoke them (well, not a few days for one bowl, but a few days for a days smoking). You can cheaply add a rotation by picking up a couple corn cob pipes- they are cheap ($5-10 for a good one), smoke dry, fairly forgiving of mistakes, and cheap so if you do mess them up you won't really care.

Since you are also a cigar smoker, I'm wondering, are you on Puff.com or some other cigar forum as well? If so, what is your screen name? I'm on Puff under the same screen name as here.

Anyway, being a cigar smoker, the transition to pipes should be easy. One thing that cigarette smokers or non-smokers coming to pipes or cigars can find tough is the nicotine strength and strong flavor of cigars or pipes. Going from one to the other you are probably used to it. A lot of new smokers start with aromatics- they smell great so they figure they'll taste better. While they don't really have a strong tobacco taste, they do tend to smoke hot. Being an experienced cigar smoker, I'd suggest you try a tobacco with a more pure tobacco taste- an English, a Virginia or burley, or at least a mild aromatic (more tobacco taste, less aromatic). Anyway, keep posting threads, and read around here, and you'll get a lot of great advice and be a pro in no time.
