Hello to all of you! I've been lurking for a bit, and decided to come out of my cozy little corner and be sociable.

I started to explore the wonderful world of the pipe during my junior year of college, about 8 or 9 years ago. I have a very modest collection of pipes, 7 in all (not counting the two or three cobs I keep around). Like a lot of younger smokers, I started off with aromatics; I still haven't found that I have a taste for Latakia or Oriental tobaccos/blends, but I've developed a real fondness for Virginia and Virginia/Perique blends in the past year or two. Nowadays, I fire up a straightforward and relaxing bowl of 1Q or BCA when the mood strikes, but I mostly pack my pipes with the likes of Grey Havens, Fillmore, Telegraph Hill, and Haddo's Delight (looking forward to a shipment of Bayou Morning and Kajun Kake). Oh...and my guilty pleasure is a small bowl of Vanilla Cream for dessert.

Beyond pipes, I work for a local newspaper (circulation sales - nothing terribly exciting) while doing graduate work in History (because, you know...there's no degree in higher demand than a M.A. in Medieval History).

Welcome to the forums! I hope you enjoy your time reading & posting.

I think most of us have started off like that! I once knew a guy in the army back in the 60s from Painsville. His name is . . . hum . . . let's see. It started with a . . . hum . . . Anyway, I was wondering whether you knew him!

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, of course...we're fine friends, he and I!

@ Dr. T:

I'm most interested in the Medieval Church as well as late Medieval England (namely the period from Edward III through Henry Richard III)

Welcome. And I'm sure a M.A. in Medieval History is eminently more employable than a M.A. in Medieval Literature (which one of my best friends has his PhD in!).

Natch
