I suppose most people give a little background around here if they plan on sticking around for a bit :) I was going to sign up at puff but every time I was looking/googling for an answer this site came up so I figured it probably has better content (in the world of pipe smoking anyway).

I am thirty and was a heavy 2 pack a day smoker from the age of 18 till 29. Then in nov I had to get an implant done for one of my teeth as one was "removed" that didnt need to be as I found out later, and my girlfriend helped me along. I figured it was for the best as both my grandparents had died of complications of lung cancer. (Quit using chantix, fantastic stuff all I had was an upset stomach and a few dreams ..... Oh and being overly moody)

Anyway the past 2 years prior to quitting I was smoking cigars at a nice local lounge which closed (right after the dollar tax increase) and the experience was always relaxing. My life has picked up and I need some relax "me" time, I figured I would get into pipe smoking. I use to work on a boat and cliche enough the captain always use to be smoking a pipe and I loved the smell, more so than cigars. Or maybe it was just because after hours of pulling in cod during sometimes freezing weather I associated pipe smoking with feeling warm and relaxing also.

Anyhow I have ordered my tobaccos from boswell (9 different aromatics and 2oz of northwoods) and am currently looking through ebay for a good deal under 100. Still searching the forums and seeing if I can get more in depth about hidden jems rather than the sav/pete/bjarne/stanwell recommendations. I really cant wait for my first smoke and I am pretty eager.

I keep eye balling pipes but still debating, I suppose most of you still have that problems years and years later. I did find on ebay this guy:

http://shop.ebay.com/alex.grandolfo/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340

However I can find hardly any information on them?

Even has a youtube video of making one of his pipes out of his home.

A big howdy and welcome to BoB!

I'm not familiar with this carver but there's no active bids on any of the 21 pipes or accessories at this time.

Jim

Thanks fellas!

I cant believe how late I stay up looking at pipes now heh, Unfortunately I finally found one I wanted to start bidding on. "MARK TINSKY BLAST SIZE 6 RHODESIAN THICK WALL MINT" 2 days left and was at 66 figured i would go to 125 (I dislike bidding wars, as I always end up winning and then getting frustrated at the other person who was bidding :) ). I place my bid and "items been removed". Just my luck!

Time to make some coffee I suppose.

Welcome to the forum. All the Boswell stuff is top notch...I would love to get one of their pipes. :bounce:

the Mark Tinskey pipes are works of art.

Welcome to the group. I've a half-dozen or so Tincky rho's and they never disappoint me.

Buddy

Thanks! With it being back up hopefully some people from the smoking forums / puff etc wont find it of course they probably already have.

Sadly enough I didnt think I would be getting into pipe smoking as I would of liked my hand at making pipes. (Had a whole shop from machinery left over once our business was bought) Some really nice (and overly heavy) drill presses and such but we sold them.

Is it torture for you guys waiting till there is a couple hours left on a bid? I want it NOW. Oh I am also an avid fly fisherman but I suppose pipe smoking and fishing go hand in hand

Any kind of fishing! I personally like salt water fishing and particularly surf casting. I have tried my hand at offshore fly fishing for Dolphin with a 10 weight rod and thoroughly enjoyed it but that is not something that I can do on a regular basis. I spent the past week surf casting on Topsail Island and while it wasn't great, a bad day of fishing is better than any best day of work! :D

Oh I still surf fish a decent amount (We are getting pompano here still). But I have to get new line on my 704z, The thin braid keeps sliding into the side of the roller sometimes. Recently had gotten a custom surf rod also which throws 4 1/2 oz's out very far. Unfortunately my casting method is awful at this point.

That and my friend has a flats boat so Ive been kind of slacking in that area.

My tobacco came today, that boswells best and berry smell fantastic i cant wait to try them. I never knew pipe tobacco had such a "campfire" smell to it though as the majority of the ones I had gotten do.

Any recommendations by anyone on what size chamber they enjoy?

I like ribbons in a big bowl and flakes in a small one with thick sides generally. But it's part of the fun to figure out which pipe works with which tobacco; the permutations are endless. My M.O. is to pick a bowl then a tobacco; the worst thing that can happen is that i have to smoke a pipe. That's actually the best thing that can happen.

Welcome Otterpop!

Ser Jacs have a pretty good rep, and that seems to be about their price range on ebay. A nice score!

I agree with Frost: Good price on the Ser Jac! Nice pipe; you're off to a good start.
