I was brought up in the 50’s and 60’s in a family of pipe and cigar smoking men.
In about 1966 I decided to join in and started buying pipes and cigars at the drug store, C.B.Perkins in Braintree Ma. and L.J. Peretti’s in Boston Ma.
I’m still smoking those pipes; most of the tobacco smoked in those days was from the drug store, with an occasional trip to Boston for some of the Peretti blends.
Today I don’t have a favorite tobacco , I have about 50 different brands, changing tobacco every couple of days , I do favor the milder aromatics .My favorite pipe is still my C.B. Perkins squat bulldog and some estate pipes I inherited from my uncle .
I think cigar smokers have suffered massive cost increases due to the Sept 1992 release of Cigar Aficionado, post 1992 you could buy good cigars for $1 after that you needed $15-$20 for a cigar .I think it even trickled down to increases in pipe tobacco and pipes.
The internet has made tobacco products more accessible and estate pipes easy to find.
Allowing me to buy many pipes per month. I enjoy buying Dr.Grabows .
The internet also allows BOB ,Dr.Grabow pipes and tobacco reviews to help us further enjoy our hobby .
Beside pipes I collect old toys and compete in power lifting.
