I need some advice as I am not wise enough yet or wise enough to ask however ya look at it. I have about 12oz of Pipe tobacco that has been in a sealed storage container for at least 8 years. This is one I got back from a loan out that was not used. I bought it many years ago from Tinderbox when it was in Michigan not any more.. The blend is Black Vanilla and Cherry. I labeled it when I put it in storage. I have been smoking it the past couple of days on and off and love everything about it but the cherry part of it causes problems in my mouth .. Too harsh.. Cherry does that to me for some reason. I need advice on what I can mix with it to curb down the cherry bite .. The Black n Vanilla blends do not bother my mouth.. I don't want to get rid of the blend with cherry in it because it is so pleasing other than the bite of the cherry.. What could I blend into it to mellow it out ?? :?:

Like Slow Puffs mentioned the moisture level also adding some va or burrley might do the trick.

Lane BCA, or unflavored cav, should mellow it without changing it's character too much...

Drying might help, but if not, I'm a big fan of adding relatively neutral Burleys to too-intense aromatics. I usually just use either Carter Hall or PS Cube Cut, but there are plenty of blending Burleys available from C&D or McClelland.

A quick question... what is the moisture level like?
Well Puffs When I opened it up it was not dry but close to it.. I cut a piece of apple and put it in the container for a couple days until it got to where I can pack and it holds well and stays lit after the first tap down and relight.. No mold or anything like that..

Fruit is a bad idea, can lead to mold - a bit of paper towel is better

I have had good luck lately with a mist sprayer and a shake of the jar, just a bit at a time, sealing up the jar and letting it distribute for a day before deciding if it needs more

I thought of that after two days of the apple slice being in there.. It started to turn brownish without mold but took it out anyway. Acted like it was curing the apple or something.. But I know that must be silly.. I will use the mister method with a paper towel if I run into dry tobacco.. Thanks gandalfpc..

Take the offending cherry blend and put it in a zip-loc bag.

Then open a tin of Presbyterian Mixture, fill your pipe, and light that.

You will find that cherry blend doesn't bother you any more!!

You're welcome.

Now that good man would be a clear way to take care of the darn stuff.. But alas I have already bonded the blends to marry.. If nothing worse I can burn it to keep the flying blood suckers away on my trip down the river this weekend and camping.. Getting away with the boys.. Its been way too long a wait.. But Sasquatch your methods do bear fruit ....
Chuck..
