I stumbled upon this forum a couple weeks back and figured I've come back enough to stop looking in the window and come inside and say hello.

I found my grandpa's pipe (he died when I was 3) in a drawer when I was a kid and thought it was pretty cool. Fresh out of college back in 1993 I was back home and digging in that same drawer and found the same pipe. I decided to give it a try. I've been smoking one pipe or another off and on ever since. The last 3-4 years was when it has really stuck. I love my pipe. It's this poor man's good friend.

I enjoy my Peterson bent pipe the most and I smoke a private blend in 2-3 pipes and GLP - Westminster in a couple of others.

I'm in management in Sanford, NC, moved here 18 months ago from Winston-Salem, NC. I hope to go to the pipe show in Raleigh in April. It's only about an hour away.

I look forward to reading the conversations and maybe even jumping in from time-to-time.

Regards!

Hello & Welcome to the Brothers of Briar.
I love the avatar, Thomas Jackson is one of the best combat generals to ever pass over the face of the earth, too bad he didnt partake of the baccy weed.

Welcome aboard TallSmoke! We are just down the road a piece from each other. I live in Apex, approximately a 45 minute ride from you. Hope you can make it up to the show next month!

Thanks for all of the kind welcomes. I hope to see some of you at the show in Raleigh.

Welcome Aboard Tallsmoke! See you have picture of Ol' Stonewall as your avatar. I'm a Civil War buff. The raw courage and fortitude of the soldiers in the face of such great adversity has always fascinated me. Hope you won't hold it against me that I'm a yankee. My wives great-grandfather was a Butternut from Missouri who fought out on the western front and settled down in Arkansas after the war was over.

Thanks, SailorJack. I won't hold that against you (too much) ha ha. When I have done a few Civil War reenactments in the past we would sometimes switch duds and wear the blue so there wouldn't be 200 rebs shooting at 30 yanks.

Rumor in my family is that we had a couple up the genealogical chain that fought with some North Carolina Troops, but I haven't officially traced it back that far. Maybe when the kids get older...

You're right, though. The fortitude of those men was striking.

See you on the boards!
