I began smoking pipes in 2001 as a thoughtless attempt at quitting cigarettes. That attempt failed as did subsequent others, but I kept smoking pipes as well. Pipes really are my favorite smoke and I need to raise some money. I plan to quit cigarettes temporarily in order to raise the money I need, but I'd rather just make it permanent. Cigarettes seem to help me think even in the absence of withdrawals, which is why I go back to them. Very well could be my imagination, I don't know.

I am prescribed Wellbutrin, which helped me stay off the sticks for weeks on end in 2009. The problem with staying off was my longing for an addiction; the antidepressant prevented me from feeling any effects of nicotine after a dose increase. I went off the drug just so I could buy cigarettes and feel the buzz.

This time, I'll go back on Wellbutrin just long enough to get over the nicotine deficit. Then I'll continue with pipes in the hopes that a strong enough pipe habit will take root.

This crossover method is of course known to fail, but what do you think is the key to making the pipe a decent vice? I never inhale a pipe, and I know their nicotine delivery will not match that of cigarettes. We know they are more decadent than cigarettes, but I want them to be just a bit more satisfying.

I came to pipes in the late nineties to get off of cigs. Worked fine...no meds needed.

Welcome, Greenleaf!

There are some very high-nicotine pipe blends that some of the Brothers could recommend to you.

Many pipemen also enjoy nasal snuff, which is a great source for on-demand nicotine (and a very pleasant tobacco experience.)

Welcome, Greenleaf!

Please consult a physician before using nicotene containing substances and Wellbutrin, as you are probably aware Wellbutrin, has it's built in dangers...

Best wishes- enjoy-be well- good Luck

Thanks, y'all. My usual is Prince Albert, I don't know of many other burley blends available in my locale that won't cause tongue bite. I smoke rather heavily, wouldn't have it any other way. Nicotine aside, I do get real psychological gratification just after lighting up as I imagine we all do.

Nasal snuff seems like a good idea, especially at work (I guess).

Welcome. And here's wishing you success in developing the addiction you're hoping for. May I recommend that you start by looking at the postings of some of the expensive, fancy pipes some of the brothers are smoking. Very easy to get the old pipelust stoked and help with the addiction process.

Cheers!

Tim
