This is not original in the sense that I and others have used Mr Clean Magic Pads in the process of cleaning pipe stems.

However after spending hours this week cleaning my pipes, the following idea came to me...

Keep a Mr Clean Magic Pad handy at all times. After each smoke, buff the stem with the Magic Pad... surely this is the ultimate solution... especially for those dastardly vulcanite stems...

Man I just tried one of those magic rasers on the oxodized stem of a pipe that was stashed in the attic for 20 years. The stuff really works!

Magic Pads do work and well. I discovered another good product. I have some Dremel polish I got at Lowes and ZZI was rubbing it on a really abused estate I bought this week and was going to put it to the buffing wheel. But I noticed that as I was rubbing it in, it was turning black. So I rubbed it some more and wiped it off and the stem was shiney and black again. Took maybe five minutes in all. Good stuff.

What's the number on that compound? I have some #421 (reddish brown) and a generic that is green with no number.

thanks for the tip. I'll give it a whirl

What are Magic Pads, and where do you buy them? I've never heard of them.

Officially, it's the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, a synthetic sponge imbued with a very-fine-grit cleaning powder (akin to Comet.) In the cleaning aisle of your supermarket/drugstore/big box store. There are similar competing products from other brands, too.

Thanks! I have seen those in the grocery store, but I sure never would have thought to use one to clean my pipe stem with :D

I'll give it a try.

You can also use softscrub cleanser without bleach and a soft cloth just make sure you get all the soap off or you will get the better face on.
Best Regards
Richard

What's the method? Do you dampen the pad as directed or use it dry?

Lou,

I used to dampen them when the stems were quite dirty... but now I just give them a dry buff after each smoke. It works for me :D

I've been using them also with good results,I like to use a stem polish
like Brebbia after the Magic Eraser. Those Peterson stems look good for
a change. :)

I keep reading about these. Do you need to store the ME in a baggie between uses or what?

Buddy

I don't,it just sits on the bathroom sink until I need it.They came 2 in a package
and it looks like they will last for a couple years in my case. :)
