Hi All,
I am new to the pipe club and have spent the last several days going through every page of these forums!

I have finally settled on an Italian pipe (due to the easy draw) but have not decided on the brand .... however I came across a pipe being smoked by Erik Nielsen (see attached photo) and the esthetic of that pipe really appeals to me.

Is that a "bent rhodesian", its not a style I see in the italian pipes. If anyone can help id the style and possibly brands that make that style I would be much obliged.
It seems like a nice lightweight clencher which is ultimately what I am after.

That pipe has a definitely Danish profile. Maybe it was self made?
Kurt Balleby ($$$) does work like that as well.

That is NOT a bent Rhodesian for sure :p It's probably a style designed and made by Erik Nielson so you would need to check on pipes made by him to find one like that. It may be a one-off design but could probably be replicated by him or another custom pipe maker. Good luck :p

Wow thanks for the quick and helpful replies. :)

Well I don't have deep pockets so I cannot get one of his custom pipes.

I'll keep it in mind as I peruse the factory italians and hopefully will find something with a 1/4 bent and as similar as possible bowl shape.

Funny thing is as I started to research pipes I was drawn to the very strong bold modern designs, but the more I look at them the more I want something simple and clean, and not heavy so I can clench if required, nothing fancy, just as long as it has a good draw!

Here's a Stanwell that is similar to that Nielson. I said "similar" :p Stanwells are GOOD pipes for the money so give them some consideration as you seem to like Danish shapes. ( they are a Danish co.) Alao, that pipe has what is refered to as a 1/8th bent.

Yes! Stanwell is a Danish company, but about 2 years ago the company was bought out, they sold their briar stock and now the pipes are made in Italy, reportedly with a drop in quality. I don't own an Italian made Stanwell so I can't speak from experience, but I do own a Danish one and it is an awesome smoker.

There are still Danish Stanwells floating around....I think there are still some at Cupojoes. My suggestion is....just to be on the safe side, if you're going to buy a Stanny try to get your hands on a Danish made one.

Actually I just went on the Cupojoes site.....I think Neerup might be an option for you. There's some pipes there that are very similar to the one in the pic for very reasonable prices, and I read good things about Neerup.

Hmmm. To me, the bowl looks like it started as a Prince, the stem then got an unprincely tilt to it, and the mouthpiece is Danish/freehandish. There's a lot going on there. I'd be a bit suspicious that the length of the pipe might exert enough leverage to be an uncomfy jaw clencher. But it's hard to tell from a picture.

If you don't have a decent pipe shop near you -- and who does? we're in the Age of Entropy -- just phone one of the online shops and have a conversation about your pipe dreams.

Maybe they'll toss in some tobacco samples.

P.S. Sorry. Meant to add re: yr comment about "easy draw" -- I understand this is considered to be a function of the size of the pipe's draw hole (not it's nationality), which shouldn't be too narrow, which I understand to mean anything under 4/32. Some consider reboring the draw hole to be a DIY affair. I've tried it with mixed results. If there's a pipemaker out there, maybe he can speak to this.
