There are two pipes shapes I always found intriguing and unwieldy, that is to say they were generally far larger than what I prefer to smoke, they are the Oom Paul and the Hawkbill.

I found an Oom Paul Ligne Bretagne Series by Trever Talbert that is not huge and a fantastic smoker. Then when least expected I found this Van Gogh Series Ser Jacopo Picta Per Aspera Ad Astra Hawkbill S2 Grade that fit the profile dimensions of which I'm comfortable smoking so I grabbed it.

As you can see by the photo it has no problem keeping it smokey with Esoterica Tilbury.

Very nice pipe and I particularly like the silver piece at the end of the shank. Glad your " KEEPING IT/US SMOKEY "!

As for me, I'm an Oom Paul kind of guy and if well balanced can clench them for quite a while. Not so BIG it's needs a chin rest.

Beautiful finish version of that pipe. I have 3 of the Van Gogh series and have a desire for more!

Lonecoyote, I never thought I'd own an Oom Paul pipe, and whaddya know, I now have one and enjoy smoking it. HOWEVER I have one question: How the heck do you pass a pipe cleaner through it while you're smoking it and it needs a bit of drying? It's IMPOSSIBLE, at least I've found.

I clean the pipe after each smoke. The stem with a soft pipe cleaner and the briar portion carefully thru the shank into the bowl with a bristle pipe cleaner. The tricky part is first locating the draft hole in the shank which is on an angle. Each Oom Paul is slightly different. If the draft hole gets severely clogged use a paper clip that's unwound and carefully pass thru the draft hole until you see it inside the bowl. I've never had to clean an Oom Paul while smoking, other then if the draft hole clogs simply remove the stem and pass a paper clip thru. I usually keep a paper clip in my pocket just in case. The paper clip is more flexible then a pipe tool and works much better on an Oom Paul pipes due to the angle of the draft hole.
After I smoke and thoroughly clean each pipe I leave the stem off for a few hours so the briar dries well thru the shank area also. Just something I've always done.
