Inderwick’s Pipe

Evening, all! Got another semi-mysterious estate pipe I recently acquired as part of a small collection. This one has a bowl that’s lined with something white—meerschaum, I assume—and is stamped with the name and address of the venerable London tobacconist Inderwick & Co. All I can find online is that some of their pipes were made by Comoy’s, but can’t see any way of figuring out more than that. In any event it looks great and seems a neat piece of British briar history!

I have an Inderwick and I have been very happy with it. Mine is shape stamped 181. I am not sure if that corresponds with a Comoy shape number.

I may sound moronic, but to me a big part of the appeal of these pipes is the stamping.  Something very authoritative in the boldness of the letters' (and numbers') markings.

A very "Old World" feel as well. Grampa, your pipe looks like an artifact from a sunken ship!

Verrrrry interesting, Friar! One of my all time favorite smokers is a “Tinderbox” stamped Made in England that I picked up in the piratical box pass on here many moons ago, iirc. I was told Comoy’s also made the house pipes for the UK Tinderbox, and while there is no number on it check out the shape:

Oh I totally agree! Love the stamping on estates. And lol on it being a relic from a shipwreck, definitely get that vibe as well.
