While I'm still lacking the last 3 I purchased here is what I currently have for bamboo shank pipes, most are briar, 1 is with olive wood, another is Morta and another strawberry wood and finally black rock, or stearite (sic) I plan on finding 1 with Meerschaum but will be very picky on its construction.

So, the question arises, do you like bamboo stemmed pipes?
  Uh, no, I LOVE them and I just remembered one of them has an Isle of Manz Black Bamboo bowl.

Those are absolutely stunning. Your making me really want to get another bamboo shank pipe. :D

You certainly are the "BAMBOO KING" of the brotherhood !!    What kind of wood is  "... Isle of Manz Black Bamboo" ?

It's black Meerschaum and it is used for the bowl, the bamboo on it is the natural blonde tone.

I have never had a bamboo shank pipe but I did share a smoke with this old farmer in South West China a few years ago. Very bright, sharp tasting tobacco, but an experience!

Yeah. Tobacco. Right.

  - Yes it does look like he would be smoking something else but it was in fact a bright virginia.
These bamboo pipes are very common in the countryside in China, the tobacco goes in the small silver bit, the bottom of the bamboo goes into water in the paint tin and you breath in a cool smoke from the top.

This was the fine shredded tobacco he was smoking:

That really is an odd looking tobacco. I read somewhere that Chinese buyers travel the world buying up the lion's share of bright virginias, and the Chinese market is nuts for the stuff.

Fwiw I recently saw a film in which a near identical bamboo bong pipe was a part of the storyline. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2178256/ Worth a look.
