Good? Bad? Ugly?

Just curious to hear what others think of these pipes. I've had the chance to buy one, but
passed. I might add one to the wish list pending what the consensus is.

Mark, I have a Karl Erik free hand from the 1970's. Lots of straight grain but does have one fill spot. It smokes great with the exception that the shank in my opinion wasn't drilled deep enough. Over the years the bit has come out on me a couple times while smoking it. It's not loose mind you, but sets in very shallow (maybe 1/8th inch?). It could just be that particular one. It's the only one I have so can't give you a more detailed or better review. With that said I'd give it a GOOD, it's not BAD and definately not UGLY.

Good to know bro, as I have no experience with these!

Karl Erik's were one of those brands which sold all over the price spectrum. So it really depends upon where in that broad range your pipe originated. Having said that, I had a few of the cheaper, fraized pipes that were just fine, if a bit gaudy. Dunno where they went.

I have one that I like pretty well. It's a bit on the heavy side but an excellent smoker.

Thanks all for the input. Here's the Karl Erik I'm considering but haven't pulled the trigger on yet:

Still pondering... too many pipes on the list...

I have a Karl Erik freehand. It was a gift and I really enjoy smoking it. When I walked into a pipe shop with it the owner filled me in about the value of it. These days I smoke it at home and truly enjoy it, it was my first freehand style.
