I guess I never paid attention to the descriptions. I got several tins of this when it first came out. It's good. Doesn't seem to be the same Izmir that C&D uses. But I don't know that for a fact. I smoke a bowl occasionally. I have been letting it age in the cellar. Always a good smoke.

I had this during the recent Spring box pass. I really liked it and it is on my TAD list. Of all the Peretti blends in the box this was by far the best IMHO.

I figured it would get good reviews but is it worth getting this one or is there another that's equally similar or better? (even though I couldn't find another with the same ingredients)

All I can tell is that I really like it; have 8 oz. tins aging for future use. The Oriental & Lat-weed combo make for a great smoke. I smoke this in meers and clays quite a bit...very enjoyable!! FTRPLT

Tashkent is my staple Oriental blend. It is by far the finest tobaccos especially the Izmir, and blended by the knowledgeable and talented folks at L J Peretti in Boston, MA.
Easily an all day smoke with just enough natural sweetness with the Turkish coming through as a perfect blend. These folks know tobacco and have the experience of over 130 years.
Do I recommend this blend, You bet I do.

As far as Peretti's is concerned, I am a diehard fan of their Royal Blend. However, in addition to a recent 1/2 lb order of my cherished RB, I decided to try 2 oz of Tashkent. All I can say is now I wished that I had ordered more. This stuff is a super strong Latakia laden blend with high quality Izmir to back it up. My advice is to check it out and if you miss the VA's, buy some Red Cake or whatever VA you would want to blend with and mix it in!

Could someone compare this to Cambridge Flake? I am getting ready to place another Peretti order and was going to get a pound of CF, but I would try a couple ounces of this if you feel it warrants the attention over CF. Thanks.

For the cost of a couple ounces absolutely try it. You won't be disappointed. If you don't like it you can always send it my way and I'll make good use of it. :D

You're right. Does Tashkent have the delicious sourness that Cambridge Flake has or does it go in a different direction? I would just read tobaccoreviews, but no one there commented on the sour note of Cambridge Flake, and it's so prominent to me. I love it.

I thank Docwatson for turning me on to this wonderful blend. To show you how special this blend is, I was able to locate the source of the aroma in a crowded room full of pipe smokers puffing away at many, many blends and track it right to docwatson's pipe. When I asked what was that amazing tobacco he was smoking, he replied, you guessed it, "Tashkent"!

I got my Tashkent from a visit to Boston about one and a half year ago, and now it is stored safely in a rubber lined jar in my closet and only comes out on very special occasions! This blend is amazing, so natural and rustic but at the same time really sophisticated!
A must have!

I've smoked Tashkent and D-9575. I preferred the latter. D-9575 is excellent.

This blend is unlike anything I have tried before. It's something completely different than the normal Penzance, FVF, Storm Front, Westminster, and Royal Blend rotation I've been doing lately. I hear Arab music playing when I smoke it. Exotic is a word that comes to mind. Another well blended offering from Peretti....I am not worthy.

Smoked some last night for the first time. It is good. I find Cambridge Flake to have superior sour notes, and I like Omega better overall, but it is definitely good.
