Longchamp pipes

I've read the entry on piped.org but wondered if anyone here knows about these leather covered briars. From what I read these were sold on base PXs. Which makes sense since my dad was a GI in the 70s in Germany. He bought this leather covered briar for my grandfather. It looks looks like the company was French and went out of business in the late seventies. That would make my pipe roughly 40 years old. I am having it repaired but don't know how to care for the leather. Any advice and info would be greatly appreciated.
