I had a MM MacArthur that had a hole through the bottom of the bowl (that I put there myself) so I thought it was a good candidate for some modifications. I chopped the top with my radial arm saw (that cob is TOUGH), drilled out the bottom of the cob to glue in a hardwood plug right to the bottom of the draft hole on the shank. Replaced the MM sticker for that "factory" look and the finishing touch is a Churchwarden "Forever" stem. It smokes great and the bottom of the cob is a great place to hold it since it never gets hot. I added a comparison shot of my MacQueen Wizard to show scale. Please excuse the sub-par quality of the pics.

Well, here's another one. I had a MM Patriot with a shank that extended clear across the bottom of the bowl. I figured I could fix that, and of course things got out of hand and it lead to a complete disassembly and rebuild. I drilled out the factory wood plug, removed the shank from the bowl, re-shaped the shank to the meet the top of the new hardwood plug, glued everything back together, trimmed the new plug and fitted it with a Forever Churchwarden stem. Lot of work for an $9 pipe but I really do like these cobs!

I'll go ahead and repost the pics of my MacArthur Cob that I modified. I chopped some off of the top and bottom of the Cob, giving it roughly the same dimensions as a General. I'm going to take a little more off the top soon, so as to make it a little more proportionally correct as a Churchwarden. I will also add a Churchwarden stem to it in the future.

I'm eager to see the mini-churchwarden cob that MM is working on. The code name, if I remember correctly, is The Nighthawk.

When is this pipe supposed to come out?

I really like these modified cobs. The individuality aspect of our hobby is really cool. 8)

I had a MacArthur cob years ago, but it wasn't a churchwarden. It was a pain to fill ... seemed like the bowl was a foot deep! ;)
