I have never tried this before and I am eager to try, but should I let it age for some time or is this stuff great right out of the can brand new?

Try it fresh and see what you think. I didn't care for it right out of the can, but you may. I've been dipping into a three year old batch and the harshness is gone. It's sweet smooth and creamy with the right amount of smokey flavor for me. Complex and interesting.

I liked it too. Not like mature Virginia à la McClellands, but good in it's own right. I got a pound of it when it first came out and it didn't last that long. This one might be one to revisit, but in a tin this time around. I'd describe it as this: MacBaren's Matured Virginia is to mature Virginia as MacBaren's Acadian Perique is to VaPers.

I bought pounds of it in the past and enjoyed it. But always aged it and even "dashboard" cooked it to mellow it a bit, and always smoked it slow and light. I remember when JR's first offered it and several othe McB blends for eighty some dollars for five pounds!

But these days, my mouth tells me there are better Virginias out there, so I haven't bought or smoked any in a couple years. Just my experience.
