Has anyone ever tried a magnum pipe?
They weigh between 100 to 200+ grams.
They look interesting, but its difficult to imagine walkin a dog at night and smoking a magnum pipe.

I have one that PipeFriendCHS gifted me & use it only on special occasions like a very big bowl of 3 nuns today to celebrate IPSD.

I prefer comfort of my small flake pipes especially when taking a walk with the dogs.

Happy IPSD

Whilst smoking my Magnums I dont walk the dawg, I pat my *******!Ken

A time and a place for everything.

There is a serene, dreamy pleasure in having a really big pipe "in the zone". They almost smoke themselves. And the briar is just barely warm. I love huge pipes. But you best have about 2 hrs to just sit and puff and read, or pat the dog, or whatever.

You have to be a bit careful on design. Full bents are nice - much easier on the jaw. Peterson's bent house pipes are an excellent example.

Just got home from the St. Louis show. There were some HUGE pipes there. They didn't look real. I've had bowling bowls that were smaller. Frankly, definitely not my taste. I'd prefer going 90 minutes with a so-called normal sized pipe.

At one time (around 2003) I owned at least 50 pipes that could have been called magnums. At that time I smoked nothing but Dunhill's #965 and other full English blends. Times changed and I moved on to smoking flakes exclusively. One by one I sold off all but a couple of my magnums in favor of smaller pipes. I find big wood to be clunky, heavy and impractical. I haven't bought a pipe larger than a group 5 in years and likely never will again...

Does anyone have a running list of articles on magnum sized pipes? I'm looking for reading material that offers a history, collector impressions, or anything else that may have been written about extraordinarily sized pipes. Sort of interested in compiling a list of makers who have them as well. I wanted to ask this months ago, when that big bent BBB was auctioned, but the inspiration was lost in the shuffle. I've seen Caminetto, Radice, and even a few Ser Jacopos that would easily qualify. BBB, Parker, Dunhill, Ashton, Charatan...any others?

this is one article I found with a quick Google search. If you have links to others, please share them or PM with them. I'd greatly appreciate it.
