matching bowl shape to tobacco's

Here is something I've been curious about. Do certain bowel shapes & bowel sizes work better for certain tobacco's? What do you folks think.

One answer is YES. Now, to qualify that, there is NO ONE TYPE that smokes better for one type or another! Since EVERYONE loads and packs their tobacco as they find it smokes best for them, i.e. I rub-out ALL my flakes that some folks fold and stuff, I find that FOR ME and what and how I smoke, that wide chambered pots and bulldogs work best for my flake blends. I have a friend who swears by tall narrow Billiards and another that prefers short squat Apple shapes all for the same type of tobacco. The final thing is you will have to try various shapes and types of 'bac for yourself to answer your question! But heh, that's part of the fun :cheers: Their really are no HARD -n-FAST rules in this endever, just some general IDEAS that we all try till we find what works for US

I say the answer is "yes," but (of course) with many things to be considered.

I have pipes that have almost identical chamber diameters and depths that smoke the same kind of tobacco totally differently.

While I'm not in total favor (economically speaking, mostly) of having one pipe to one particular, specific tobacco, there's always going to be a marriage of a type of tobacco and a particular pipe that suits your smoking style. When you find that combo, it's a real "hallelujah" moment! In other words, this isn't a Tolkien story, there is no "one pipe to rule them all." You just gotta figure it out.

Personally, in my experience, I've never found a particular bowl size or pipe shape to make a difference in how a blend reacts. I mean, this is not to say that a pipe that smokes one blend will smoke them all well, or that pipes with similar dimensions will react similarly to the same blend. To me, it seems to be more a matter of the given pipe itself, beyond chamber measurements and and angles (I'm sure there's all sorts of science-y stuff that could get into briar density and consistency, wall thickness, temperature, blah blah blah)

For me, if a pipe and blend work I try not to ask too many questions...the more I think about it, the more likely I am to muck it up! :shock:
