Mount of a pipe

Brothers, the Peterson Aran 150 Bulldog which was ordered for me is described as being "without a mount". What does that mean please? Our tobacconist reckons it does not have the metal fitting on the shank but he's only guessing.

I´d say the same. I believe the Peterson´s Arans all come with a nickel silver band or mount on the shank. Could you ask the person you ordered it from to clarify perhaps?

I've been to the guy today but he's not a pipe smoker, he only sells them. So he could not tell me and would not ask Peterson either. It seems as if nobody is sure about it.

Well if it´s coming from Peterson´s directly with that description, it could be one sans-nickel mount. Again I can´t say for sure. I only have one Aran (264) in my collection and it has the metal ring on there. It is possible that a bulldog in that finish is mount-free.

The guy you´re going through doesn´t sound very helpful...

I hope you're right because I'm not really crazy about metal fittings on a pipe. I like your canadian, I love pipes with a lot of wood in the shank. Problem with the vendor is he's got dozens of pipes in his shop but there is nothing I like. He's got one beautiful Peterson Bulldog, don't know which model, but price is R1,900.00. It's been there for ages 'cause nobody wants to pay that kind of money for a Pete. The 150 which is on order for me, will sell for R800.00.

Brother, just want to let you know that you were right. The "mount" is in fact any metal fitting on the shank.

I've spoken to Petersons and some of the Aran models come without the mount. The importer assured me that he ordered a pipe with the nickel mount. Petersons Dublin told our tobacconist that it's without the mount. So all I can do now is wait and see what arrives! Which ever way, I will take it as I really want a Peterson Bulldog. Just hope it's not a 9mm filtered pipe because that I don't want.
