Well it wasn't luckier cause the stummel is full of pits, it just went better for me except that this one the stummel was only drilled on the lathe and everything else was by hand (and I really hate sanding). Well, the Lucite hand cut stem was turned on the lathe but, naturally the rest of it was filed and sanded by hand. A Volcano I chose to do for my 8th pipe and I think except for the fills and a few other minor flaws it came out pretty good. What ya all think?

Probably your most artistic effort yet Ron! You really nailed the grain orientation on this one for certain!

Pretty interesting take on a Volcano Ron. Kind of a freehand Volcano with the bark on the bottom (sorry, I've forgotten the proper term for this). And you say you created that stem yourself? That's outstanding!

Cheers,

(edit: Plateaux is what I was trying to remember. Had to look it up. D'OH!)

That's a real beauty there Ron, I'm a sucker for a nice volcano and that's a great rendition there. If you ever wish to part with it, I'll happily take it off your hands.

Cheers

Tim

Thanks guys!
And I understand perfectly BD, I'm always forgetting one sort of word or another on a regular basis and it really ticks me off. ;)

That is a beauty Ron, and I can only imagine the hours of sanding and filing. The flow of the grain is impressive and, while a freehand, there is still a very pleasing symmetry. The only thing I don't like is that I don't know how I would hold it while smoking. But my taste in shapes tends to be traditional, so it just might be my own bias showing. I'm really impressed with your work!
Mike.

Thank you Mike!
And you'd be surprised at how well it feels in the hand, just holding it like any other pipe. ;)

Superb job Ron! That one is very impressive, heck that looks great Brother.

I'll keep it short-n-sweet, YA DONE REAL GOOD! guy, probably the best all around that you've shown us !!

I like the pits - they give it character and the plateau bottom is a nice touch. Al

I like it Ron, the grain is sweet, and it begs to be held and smoked!

Ron not only is the pipe stunning but it's beautiful. I had no idea that you were that creative. With the exception of the pits it's one of the best looking pipes I've seen done by anyone on this forum. Keep it going.

I really like the shape of the briar and the stem work looks excellent! I think you might be on to something.
