Hey guys. My mom sent me this pipe a few weeks ago. One of her dogs got on the table and gave it a good chew. The carvings got more than a few teeth marks in it and the stem needs to be replaced. I was hoping that one of you would be able to help me out with replacing the stem. I don't think she plans on smoking it, but wants to put it in her pipe rack. I took a picture of the inlay, but it came out bad. It says ALTINAV (ALTINAY, maybe), I think. It's kind of hard to read. Does anyone know anything about this pipe?

It actually doesn't look all that bad. I have had some luck cleaning up the chewed off end, heating it up and pressing against a hard surface. Then use the displaced material to form a new button. The teeth marks on the stem look like they would polish out easy enough. Just go easy with the heat it's way too easy to set it on fire without meaning too.

hhhhhmmmmm...I hadn't thought about that. I usually use a candle to bend my stems. I will see if I can make a new button. Thanks

What a cracking site! Great pipes - the Few Dollars More pipe is cool, nice movie tie in.....

Good luck with the pipe repair Scotty - I hope it goes well but if the stem doesn't fix I'm sure Altinok might offer a replacement stem.

That stem would be no problem to file down, sand-out and buff to a shine again.

I did a successful deep scratch repair in my panel meer, but that was all angles and relatively easy.

Hey, one way to look at it: the irony of the dog chewing on a pipe shaped like a dog. I mean, the dog either knew better ("...it looks like a dog, must be for me...") or or didn't, but I think it gives it some personality. The teeth marks are kind of charming and will color well if that pipe is ever smoked.

I think "Altinok" is the maker, too.

...or... it's an Altinay...

Altinay...thanks for that. I just went to their website and the emblem in the top left corner matches the inlay in the stem. At least I can send my mom in the right direction to get some info on it.

Her best friend gave it to her. She got it from her uncle (or some other relative) who got it while he was in Turkey a while back. Something like he became friends with a local and this was a gift to send him back one with.
