My new Favorite Pete

Well, its not "new" , its an estate, but it wasnt that used, and it cleaned up nice.
Its a 317, and I have to say,,,I absolutely love this pipe.
Its light weight, hangs nice, and smokes perfect for me right now.

What an awesome little pipe !
Oh , and its my straight Virginia pipe .

Anybody else like theyre 317's?

I have one that I use as my goin somewhere pipe. It's so small it fits perfectly into a small leather one pipe bag I have that also holds a lighter, small tamper and a few pipe cleaners. I pre load the pipe with a ginny flake or some Conniston Cut plug and off I go. Fits perfectly into a coat pocket, or the cargo pocket on summer shorts. My only complaint is that they don't yet make them with acrylic stems, but I'll bet that's coming. I much prefer the new acrylic stems Peterson has been making lately to the vulcanite traditionally used. Other than that it's a cool little pipe

I don't have one, but the 317 or 314 would be my choice, based on shape and proportion. Just a personal preference, of course. I am smoking a 309 at the moment. It's OK, but I prefer the above. Gawd, I used to hate Peterson systems, until I discovered the twisted toilet paper trick after each smoke. Now I love the dang things. Enjoy. They're great "workhorses."

A little tip. After you smoke it the stem comes apart easily, being a system pipe it's like a military bit and removing it when warm won't harm anything. You run one end of a cleaner through the stem, the other end through the bowl airway, then double the cleaner over to swab out the well. Or, you can keep some Q Tips handy, they make good well swabs. Better than having to go find a roll of toilet paper every time you smoke a system pipe :lol:

I cannot speak for others' experience with these pipes, but the wells on mine collect an inordinate amount of condensate after just one bowlful. I use TP or Kleenex or whatever twisted tight into the well because it's ubiquitous and very absorbent. It also works in the stem opening, also usually gunked up. I don't think I have a single cotton swab in the house. Yes, the pipes are great in being able to pluck the stem out when still warm. When outdoors you can merely flick the incredibly vile liquid on the ground, blow, and stick the stem back in and reload. Pipe cleaners are just for when you want to be really fastidious.

the price was great, but shipping from the UK put it up pretty close to where I could have got a brand new one.
but oh well,,it cleaned up nice,

so that makes 3 Petes now, and gee,,LOL, I guess i'm getting my "First brand new Pete" for Christmas.
I was feeling guilty about buying all these pipes, so I was kissing up to my Gal for a while there,,, and heck, she had me pick out a pipe from Smokingpipes.com and its on its way.
A pretty cool , Peterson Model 65 "green" spigot,,,,,,so I'll be smoking that on Christmas Morn.
I'm irish, and green has always been my favorite color. Green is my companies color, My work shirts are green, so Im sure its going to take over as my favorite,,, we'll see.

Oh yeah,
Im kind of anal about cleaning Ive never had enough juice to pour out LOL
But I do the bent pipe cleaner trick nightly in my petes.
And I do try to do it while they are warm.

I will take the stem out and sling the water out then I do the pipe cleaner thing. I wll do the same on all my bents if they get to gurgling. Put my thumb over the bowl and give her a sling with the stem in on my savinellis. amy mounts take it out while warm.
