I was invited by Charl Goussard  to a smokers meeting on the 7th of December     I've met this gentlemen a while ago at one of our club meetings.  I'm looking forward to see, for the first time,  how a freehand pipe is made

If you want to check out Charl's work, google Charl Goussard Pipes or Goussard Pipes.

My wife claims that they are hers! Both in college and driving me crazy! Thank you for the compliment.

Charl who?
:p :p :p :p :p :p :p

He is a very talented artisan and a very generous friend indeed!
Consider yourself lucky and pay attention to what he shows you. He really knows his stuff. I have three Goussards and will be getting more in the near future. Top notch pipes and VERY reasonably priced for such high quality.

(Was that ok Charl? Make sure you send cash this time. ):lol!:

We were entertained by Charl at his house today. Lekker barbecue and salads. And, of course, lots of pipe and tobacco talk.

But, that's not what I want to tell you.

This great man gave me an early Christmas present.

Will post pictures tomorrow

I've smoked the pipe about 5 times now and it's nothing else but what I expected......super nice!!

The inside of the bowl was left "raw", the way I want it. Last night I mixed a small drop of honey with water and VERY LIGHTLY coated the tobacco chamber with said mix. I left it until this morning. Half-filled the pipe with Pete's Irish Whiskey (tobacco) and put flame to it. Delicious !!! WOW !!! Could not even taste the briar !!! This is pure smoking bliss !!!

This is my very first pipe from a master carver. And only now can I appreciate the price that goes with a pipe like this.

This won't be my last Goussard. I've aleady decided that I want a bulldog with the name GOUSSARD on it. Will place my order early in the new year.

Beautiful pipe. Sounds like it smokes wonderfully. I hope to own one of Charl's pipes one day.

I own 48 briars, most of them in the middle range as far as price is concerned.  The only real expensive pipes I have are two Davidoffs.  I'm quite happy with my collection which I've built over about 4 years. I love each and everyone of them and they will stay with me until my dying day. And there are no more pipes I desire.

Or rather, that was until I received this Goussard from Charl   :D :D

I've been smoking this pipe for 5 days now.  The best I've ever had.  The most beautiful pipe in the herd.  A dream to smoke.

Now I want another one.  I've always balked when I looked at pipes in this price range. My reasoning told me that I could buy 2 or 3 mid-range pipes for the same money. But now I have all the mid-range pipes I wanted.

So, in future I can afford to buy 2 or 3 pipes a year from Charl without breaking the bank.  I've spent much more than that in a year, buying the more affordable pipes.

Why Charl Goussard?  First of all I may call him my friend now and I like to support friends. Second reason, he lives close enough to me so that we can get together. He's a great guy to socialise with.  Unlike overseas carvers, I can go and sit with him and explain exactly what I want.  And I trust him.

Needless to say but still, I'm not in any way related to Charl, I'm not a partner in his business and he does not pay me to advertise for him.  I'm only telling my brothers wat's happening to me!!   :bounce:

You're heading down the dark and dangerous road of artisan collecting!  :lol!:

I've never seen or smoked one of Charl's pipes, but from what I know of him and seen on his website I can say with some level of certainty that he makes an excellent pipe, especially for the price.

Charl is not an exception, however. I'd say that many other artisan pipes are in the same category.

...............and looking forward to it!! This really is something new to me. We often say "if only I knew". If I knew what I know now when I started a new collection 4 years ago, I could have had about 10 artisan pipes now and nothing else. If only........ :(
