Hey All,
Thought I would share this discovery. Some of you might be in a situation like myself where, after enjoying a nice pipe, find yourself around others who don't necessarily like the smell so much. Maybe I have to go into work or be around my family and although I enjoy the lingering aftertaste of a bowl of English tobacco, it doesn't create the greatest breath.
Popping in a strong mint doesn't do much I find. Mmm...latakia and mint, an interesting combo. Brushing and mouthwash has some effect but is not 100%.
The best thing I've found is...an apple. Apples are great at scrubbing and cleaning out your mouth. They are mildly astringent and fibrous so when chewing them up you are, in effect, scrubbing your teeth with a natural cleaner. Not only that, the taste of an apple can actually complement some smokes. A sweet juicy apple doesn't clash like some laboratory produced toilet-cleaner like mouthwash after smoking say a Virginia flake. Also it takes about 5 minutes to polish off an apple so that is a pretty thorough scrub down to prevent any yellowing of the old pearly whites.
I have begun to make it a habit to follow up my daily morning pipe with a cool, fresh, crunchy apple and I have found that it eliminates all smoker's breath and leaves my mouth feeling clean. And its healthy!
Give it a go and let me know what you think. Mints are totally unnecessary once you switch to natures gift...the apple.
