Good afternoon, gents. I'm a greenhorn pipe smoker. My dad used to smoke pipes when I was a kid, and I've always been interested in taking it up for myself. Been looking at several different styles of briar, and I'm really interested in getting a good bent apple, billiard, or a zulu shape. As far as tobacco, I found a good Irish whiskey aromatic at a local shop that smells fantastic. I'm really looking forward to my first pipe and sharing my experiences with you all.

Big Howdy Blackthorn. Welcome to the wonderful world of the Briar! It's fun just getting started. Lots of choices to make and experiments to try. Hope you stick around.

Cool avatar!

Welcome to BoB, lots of great information here and very helpful BoB's. Enjoy your stay!

A big warm welcome to you from the Volunteer State, sir!! Hope you enjoy your stay! I'm sure you will. These folks will treat you so many good ways you'll have to like a few of them!!

Thanks for the warm welcomes, fellas. I made a decision on a pipe earlier today: I'm going for a Missouri Meerschaum Ozark Mountain pipe with the maple finish and a straight bit. I've heard good things about 'em, and I figure that with proper care, I'll be able to try out different tobaccos in it and find some I really enjoy before I'm ready to step up to a more expensive briar piece. I don't really want to risk ruining a good briar while I get the hang of smoking, but the Ozark is just as visually appealing to me, and you really can't beat the price for a beginner.

My dad also recommended Captain Black Gold tobacco for me, and I really trust his advice. We have very similar tastes, so I know he wouldn't willingly steer me wrong.

Thanks, and well wishes!

And, so your journey begins!! I hope that it is an enjoyable ride for you, sir! Just remember this... smoke what you like... and, like what you smoke... regardless of what anyone else tells you or thinks!!! That is advice that I have seen repeated here on BoB more times than I have hairs on my head!! And, it is definitely sage advice!!!!

I am pretty new here too and really like this place! I use to be mostly an aromatic guy too, but have gone to mostly very nice Virgina tobacco. Some I thought was too much for me has become my favorites.

Opening Night is one such and just made an order today for 2- 8 Oz. tins of this an 2 of the 100G 633 and added their 660 silver in 100g to try.
