Hey Every one i have been looking at this website for a couple of days and thought this would be the best place to start, My name is Eric and i am 20 years old i have never once smoked a pipe but have smoke some hand made cigars and a decent amount of hookah, and after a couple of weeks i have decided i really want to get into pipes not for the sheer fact that they are awesome in every way but how you can get any type of tobacco you could ever imagine. The down side is that i am a unemployed 20 year old college student with zero money but as soon as a can get a job in this economy i plan to purchase my self my first pipe and start trying the endless types and flavors of pipe tobacco. Anyways i hope to have an awesome experience with this community and hope to get to meet some awesome poeple.

Welcome, brother.
As to your financial situation, you can spend a fortune on pipes but you don't need to. You can pick up a cob and a couple pouches of drug store blends to try for the price of a couple nice cigars, but you will enjoy alot more than 2 smokes from it. Once you have a couple cobs and a briar or two the cost of just tobacco is quite a bit cheaper than cigs or cigars. Of course I find it hard to stop accumulating cheap old estates off of ebay.

Welcome and keep it simple with the pipes, just sample as many blends as possible to get you going.

I picked up a cob at the local CVS for $6.29, had my first ever smoke with it this morning. Seemed great to me. That along with the mild semi-aromatic I picked up at the local smoke shop made for an excellent morning. I would definitely recommend starting with a Missouri Meerschaum cob, like the one I picked up. All in all it was a great smoke for under $11.00 total. Good luck with the hobby. I just joined the other day and this might be the friendliest group of fellas around. Welcome!

A big Tennessee welcome to the brotherhood, sir!!! I know you will enjoy your stay with us... we've got an awfully good bunch here!!!!

Shane, I'm glad you followed our advice and enjoyed your experience!! But, remember that this is just the beginning of a long, beautiful journey!!!!!

Iceme, you would do well to follow the advice of others and Shane's example by starting out inexpensive and slow! When it comes to corn cob pipes, the Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipes are the Cadillacs!!!! If you get one of them, smoke it without a filter! It will help teach you to smoke slow and correctly.

If you would like, check out the first post that I made to Shane (pasq0231) as well as advice given to him by others in the thread where he introduced himself. It is information that I wish I could share with every pipe smoker before they begin their journey.

I wish you the best! Again... welcome!!! And, post often!!!!!!!!

Hey Eric, I've been there. Cobs and Prince Albert got me through the tough times.

Welcome to Bob !

Welcome aboard! I joined recently as well, and the BoB is a great place to acquire some pipe knowledge, and lingo. Your pipe related vocabulary will definitely increase greatly if hang around here!
