I just found out about BOB and am really pleased to be a member.
I spend half the year in Canada and winter in N.C. sailing and kayaking.
The best thing about N.C. is that I can order lots of great tobacco at a fraction of the price that I would pay in Canada plus an excellent selection that I can't find back home.
I've been smoking a pipe since I was 9 years old. My first pipe cost $1.00 and the tobacco which was Bond Street was about 45 cents. That was back in 1958.
Those were great times back in the 50's when everthing seemed to make more sense and pipe smoking was a very respectable thing to do. ( Now I have to keep my hobby quiet and it's done behind closed doors at home.) but once I light up - I am back in the 50's.
My favorite pipes are Petersons. I have a couple of Dunhills, a Julis Vesz, a J T Cooke pipe of the year from Pipes and Tobacco, but it's the Petersons that really smoke the best for me. I just picked up a Peterson House Pipe at Smoking Pipes and it's the best smoking pipe I ever had.
As for tobacco, I like it all, but my mainstay would be matured virginias. I also like Irish flake.
And if I'm fooling around in the yard or fishing, then Carter Hall or PA does fine.
Happy smoking to everyone and I'm glad to be here.
