Hey guys here's a tamper that i just made myself in the last while.

Here it is without any finish:

Here it is with finish:

[

I used some bird's eye maple I had from another project and a .357 shell from an outing to the range. Turned it on my metal lathe at work.

I like it. I use a spent casing from my 45/70 as a tamper.

thanks fatman! yeah i just had the casing sitting around as well as bits of the maple sitting around. i think next time i go to the range might have to fire off a couple rounds on a .45 so i can make a couple out of those, i think the size would be nicer. do you just use a a casing or do you have any type of insert/ handle on yours?

I just use the casing, seeing as it is about 2 inches long. the base is pretty broad and works nicely. Do you reload? I am thinking of using my tumbler to see if it can polish some pipe stems. If you'd like I can send you a couple of the large caliber casings, I even have some spent .50 BMG casings

I may take you up on that. but if I did I'd have to get you to send that 45/70 with it to put a maple or some other fine specimen of wood handle insert for you.
