You might remember my post about my wife messaging me from the thrift store about a pipe she saw, then went back for (Dunhill Red Bark). Well, this acquisition is related, in that there was another pipe she bought and did not tell me about.

This Barling, after researching, seems to be a transition era pipe. I didn't have high hopes for it because of that, but I was tickled that my wife bought this without saying anything, putting it in my Christmas stocking.

After an initial salt bath, I tried it out with a few different Tobaccos, but it just didn't taste right. Good smoker in the sense that it stayed cool and didn't require a ton of relights, but the taste was off.

So I set it aside for a week before I decided to salt it again, and left it sitting for 3 days. Cleaned it up, and went for a bowl of John Bull (a "works every time" blend for me.) Shazam! That did the trick, now I have a new pipe for the rotation.
