I discovered how to dilute Fiebings Orange dye using 6 parts ethyl alcohol and 1 part dye. It came out much lighter than my 'Hunter Safety Orange Poker' as some of you may recall, but I really like how this turned out. Of course I tested this mixing theory out on some red oak I had laying around before putting brush to pipe!

The rustication too nearly 3 hours to complete. I used a pencil tip on my dremel tool and put millions of dots in the pipe very carefully. Then I burnished around the ribbon to make it stand out.

I've got plans for my next pipe, I picked up another Riviera but this bowl is taller and wider... and I can't wait to get my grubby paws all over it :D

I've got to admit that's an interesting Grabow. How's it smoke? Good work.
I haven't even got it broke in yet to be honest with you.

I'm still trying to find some carnuba wax for these pipes I keep turning out.

I am impressed with your accuracy, but for me the design is a bit too busy, and I think it could use more contrast between the rusticated and smooth areas, but thats just like my opinion man ;) oh yeah and that orange is way better diluted

Thanks BC, honestly if I do any kind of ribbon twist again I'm going to make sure it doesn't overwhelm the onlooker like this one does. I think it hits you when you're looking at the transition from bowl to shank where I allowed my taped off areas to overlap. I really just wanted some briar to test my diluted dye on and this one seemed to fit the bill.

I was afraid the ethyl alcohol wouldn't jive with the dye... everywhere else I've heard from says use isopropyl. I'm tempted to use it more often now :D
