Pipe smokers are the nicest people ever! Seriously. No joke. Sure, the pipe community probably has some grouchy old timers in it (although, I haven't encountered them yet even though some of you claim to be in this category) but honestly, I love how awesome the pipe community is! I have found that they are almost always VERY generous with tobacco, time, and just in general.

For instance, yesterday when I got to work around 1, my co-worker was speaking with a gentleman about pipes. Older fella, really nice and easy to talk to. Just chatting away about pipes. My co-worker explained to him that the Greenville Pipe Club meets in our lounge once a month and that they would be meeting at 7pm that same evening. He said he might make it back. During that interaction, I didn't even talk to the gentleman. Well, he made it back for pipe club AND brought a backpack stuffed with goodies to show off (pipes and tobacco). He whips out a vacuum sealed jar and says "The other young lady here says you like some aromatics, I brought this for you." Then he whips out another tin and says "This one is for her when she gets back because she said she likes really sweet aromatics." This guy doesn't know me, never even talked to me, just knew that I smoked pipes and he gave me some tobacco.

I got bombed in-person by a stranger (he is no longer a stranger after Pipe Club though!). It's just awesome :)

I've certainly been a victim of that kindness. Just look at the January bombing thread! My wife still thinks you're all a little crazy. But I know better. You're completely crazy in the best way.

Well, there are exceptions. I heard that there's some evidence that this guy was an old grouch, most of it buried years ago.

Hey, I resemble that remark.   ;)

It's great to read comments like that Kaitlyn. As a relative newbie, I too have been touched by folks' kindness, not only with baccy and the like, but also with their words. I've said it many times before, but I consider it a privilege to be amongst such fine fellows (and girls!).

You missed the part after ;) "(although, I haven't encountered them yet even though some of you claim to be in this category)"

Kaitlyn, I agree. They are affectionately known as "curmudgeons!" :lol!:

Sounds like every meeting of the "Hudson Valley Pipe Club" to me! :lol!:
I am proud to say that I have been gifted and have gifted tons of pipes and tobacco over the years. Most, don't want anything in return, but they always get something stuffed into their pipe bags (or in the mail) when they aren't looking! That's why I love being a pipe smoker........ ;)

That's awesome!

I really wish I had more funds to just give stuff away! I would build my cellar and then start whomping people with awesome gifts!

I agree also. I drive a residential garbage route solo. Which means I have to get out and get the cans at every stop. Some I do in the yard, which affords me the opportunity to meet my customers first hand. A lot of pipe smokers on my routes. It's one of the few times I don't have to force a chuckle at a "what's in the pipe buddy?" joke. Anyway, some of these guys have left me tobacco with little notes the next time I came by! A couple of them have made a point to be outside for a pipe around the time I stop at their house so they can say hi. Weird, huh? It kind of forces kindness out of strangers.

Great story Jev. Never thought there'd be so many pipers that one would bump into like that.

Mostly retired guys to be honest. Guilford ct has a well to do population, and a small local tobacconists' shop that caters to that sort of clientele.
