So yesterday I smoked GLP Cumberland and my head was swimming. Then today I had some McCellend 2000 and again my head is swimming. I notice both are made of mature virginia. Is there any rules of thumb when it comes to nicotine content? It'd be nice to plan ahead and pack a smaller bowl to avoid the discomfort. Rarely do I smoked more than one bowl or cigar a day and usual go days inbetween so building a tolerance isn't going to happen.

I've been smoking a pipe for many years (decades ) and I'm like you, I get zerocontent from that much nicotine. Recently I tried Brown Bogie (supposedly the mildest of the ropes) and it kicked my @$$! :bounce: I'll stick to the blends of VaPers and the aged burleys, I'm just man enough for them.

Dude, I am going to save face here as I would be speaking under correction. Certain VA's have a harder kick. I am just not sure which ones. I think I picked it up from the GL Pease Site.
Either way, I am a hard smoker man and there are days when certain blends kick my ass too, eg, OJK, GLP Laurel Heights, etc. come to mind here. Also C&D Safe harbor Flake, Pete Irish Flake....... but I love them. When I get spinning it is when I smoke a little fast at times especially with the above mentioned blends!
........Now remember I come from cigs also so there is no nic muff to tuff for me...................but I still get spinning at times.
Slow smoking man, gentle sips!!

Enjoy, at least you are getting High legally!!! 8)

I enjoy a lot of high nicotine blends,
but I don't smoke em for that reason.
If I wanted a buzz, I'd smoke something else.
BTW, a nicotine high ain't all that pleasant,
unless yer into the spinners and cold sweat.

when i first started, everything sent my head spinning. i can tell my tolerance has built up (mostly on escudo). now if i don't get a little nicotine kick, i feel somehow unsatisfied. ditto on that peterson irish flake, whew...had to lay down! :D

Well good to know that I'm not the only one, even among those who have smoked longer than me. I'll just have to pack smaller bowls if I'm trying a blend for the first time to avoid the tail spin.

GLP Cumberland at one time was my favorite tobacco, but about 4 years ago the nicotine started getting to me and found I couldn't smoke it or other high nicotine tobacs. It just wasn't worth the hiccups, spins and stomach churnings.

I found the Synjeco tobacco reviews to be a pretty good indicator of nicotine strength of many of the popular pipe tobaccos and have used it to find mild yet flavorful pipe tobaccos. Here's their website:
Synjeco reviews

Good luck,

Jim

Coming from cigars, I don't really have a problem with nicotine however I don't go looking for it either.

I'm more into taste than power. Give me a zero nicotine tobacco with great taste, and I would be all over that :D

I almost always smoke burley, but tell me about these high nicotine Virginias. Do they cause any tongue bite if you smoke 'em all day. I smoke my PA constantly, and love it, sometimes smoke some proper English all night. Never much got into Virginia, but I do love nicotine.

So, y'all get put on your ass by a tobacco ... and complain about it? Puzzling.

Ditto.

Completely nonsensical, too. As in, I used to roll cigarettes of Cutty Pipe, Five Brothers and Weyman's. Twenty or thirty of them a day. Never a problem. Four or five daily pipes of FVF &/or Embarcadero is no problem.

But every time I fired up LH, it kicked my dupa. Emphatically.

WTF ? (!)

Yea Yak,............................. WTF :lol!: :lol!: :lol!: :lol!:
But that said, I think it is of the best VA blends out there!!!!!

I don't smoke on a daily basis much of the year, but I do dip Skoal daily and use nasal snuff pretty regular, so Vit N doesn't have a big effect on me. I don't usually seek out especially strong tobacco, haven't tried LH, but none of the rest mentioned (that I have tried) affect me. Other than Irish Flake which can still put my back in my chair, especially if I haven't eaten recently.

Another vote for Irish Flake Hunter!
It is great stuff Piet. Had a bowl Sunday night after a wonderful meal (thanks to Mrs. Hunter). Regardless of the full tummy, I still got a pretty good buzz from it, no sweats or anything uncomfortable, but I definitely knew the N was present.

I like burley blends, too, and I am not sensitive to nicotine. Virginias taste GREAT but bite my tongue. The solution? Try some of the Virginia or Va/burley blends from Gawith and Hoggarth, specifically Dark Flake and CR Flake. Also give Kendal Kentucky a whirl -- it's a powerful top-notch burley.
