I've been to pretty much all the Tobacco shops in my area and even in the more high end shops like Barclay Rex and De la Concha, I never see the famed drugstore brands like Carter Hall and Prince Albert(except in a tin) in pouches. I don't want to spend $$ for a tin but i would like to try them.

Anyone in NYC know where they sell them in pouches?

Some CVS or Rite Aid drugstores will have PA in the pouch. It's a crapshoot, but I've seen it. (Duane Reade is Capt. Black/Borkum Riff if anything.)

The same is true for sketchy "smoke shops"/newsrack stores... you might find the odd pouch here or there. If you're headed to some residential neighborhood, drop into anywhere that sells cigs and look behind the counter.

Disclaimer during my time in the city, I relied completely on WV Smokeshop and/or Mars Cigars for any classic American brands... both have single pouch options, though obviously a bigger order = better shipping value.

For what your taxes are in NY you can buy a tin almost at marscigars.com. They are getting harder and harder to find. i have best luck in grocery stores for PA, CH, and Granger usually and sometimes Half and Half.

I'll second the sketchy magazine type shops. There was one in Staten Island on Forest Ave that had racks of girlie mags in the front, head shop type stuff in the middle of the store, and the best selection of drugstore blends and hookah tobacco I've ever seen, and a cigar humidor behind that.

But they didn't have a single premium tobacco there or any pipes that cost more than a Yellow Bole or Medico.
