Somewhere in here is a discussion of Parker markings.

Naturally, the 25-cent "search engine" doesn't come up with it.

AT ANY RATE : This is a nice example of a Parker Straightgrain A billiard. I have an old (as in 50-6- years at least) one nearly identical to this one (except with more vertical grain) that is, after an LL re-stem, my all-time favourite pipe.

The example in this auction is a later one, made for the German market (9 mm. filter adapted), which I hadn't known they did (or do). Otherwise, they're identical.

* NOTE THE STAMPING : entirely different from most other Parkers. (On this German example, the "A" is on the bottom of the shank rather than on the left side of it next to the stem joint).

Picture? Link?

Is my browser or my small brain not picking up how to see the surely very cool Parker?

That's a great looking Parker. The seller says "Mint" in the listing but it's a little shy of being mint. I noticed a ding or two and some scorching around the rim. I'd still love to have it in my collection. I bet it's a good smoker. It certainly does have a nice eye candy grain to it.

Caveat emptor on ol' ePrey. Listings seem not to get much problem if they lead with a title that polishes up better than the reality, so long as it's put in the fine-print in the listing someplace.

Easy answer: demand more pictures.

Not my shape, but a nice pipe. 8)

Never seen a BLUE Parker before?!! I would like to buy it but I do not like coloured pipes

I think your monitor's not meshed with some kind of colour standard, Pete.

It's orange.

And there are lots of pictures -- scroll down to them.

PS : I'm not pushing this. The main reason I posted it was we had a discussion a few months ago about Parker stampings ; this one illustrates what I was saying about their Straightgrains being marked differently (which Pipedia doesn't have illustrated).

Hello Yak, yes I did scroll down and on my monitor all the pics show up in BRIGHT blue!! But the "main" pictures show the pipe in the correct colour. I was only joking because I know I can't afford another Parker!!

That one will go high because it's pretty and shiny. Apes like shiny.

But I got a larger one (not an "A" --just a Straightgrain) a couple months ago pretty cheaply because it wasn't shiny. It cleaned up nicely.

You're not out of it because you can't throw a lot of money around. You just have to be canny.

straight grain is a bit of a stretch, look at the left side of the bowl

It's a no go for me on that one, brother. Check the bidding.

But I have two very old Parkers (or rather, I have one and I'm waiting for the other), so I'm not unhappy about the situation.
