I'm new to this pipe thing- and I am very curious about how the Peterson Mark Twain and Sherlock Holmes pipes are. I really like the Peterson system pipe I have now and, I'm wondering if it's worth getting the Twain set and maybe one of those Holmes pipes.

Of course- Holmes rotation would be awesome. It'd look great on my writing desk in my office...

Any opinions?

I'd love to vicariously enjoy a Mark Twain set through ya, if that means anything. They're awesome-looking. 8)

Yes! Get them! :D

I think the Twain set might be my next pipe purchase...my birthday is coming up after all.

Though- I like the look of the Professor Holmes pipe. No one seems to have the ebony finish one though...

I meant, The Professor. I'd like that and a Sherlock too...

This pipe thing is starting to get out of hand!

Yeah I can't seem to find any ebony Holmes Petersons either...

One does exist, the "Professor..."

...which is why PAD (aka Pipe Acquisition Disorder) is a common thing around here. You're among good, enabling folk 'round these parts. 8)

No Kyle, we are not enablers...but if I were him, I would grab them up now before someone else gets them and they are no longer available. ;)

I really like the bent Mark Twain pipe - one of these days I'll get a hold of one.

FWIW, I read that Peterson acknowledged that their standard for the briar in the Sherlock Homes pipes is not as high as their standard for briar in their other high end pipes due to the high demand for the Holmes series. Though that may be completely false, and I may be guilty of spreading a nasty internet rumor.

The best I could find to coroborate is Jim Lilley's quote:

"In general terms I find the Sherlock Holmes series very appealing to the eye,but disappoints by failing in quality and value for money. I would suggest that there is room for improvement in both the quality of finish and basic engineering, to make these much improved smoking pipes."

I have several in the Sherlock Holmes series.

The Mycroft Dublin is one of my favorites to this day. Got it about 10 yrs ago. Great smoker and I pretty much dedicate it to VaPers.

The Hopkins I acquired several months ago has yet to be broken in.

Cheers,

RR
