Really ? What are people thinking. If I tell you its rare it must be true , a thousand is a pretty big production number when it comes to pipes.

The finish is gorgeous and shape is very well done, but it doesn't have the grain to support that price.

I don't think I'll ever understand some of the sellers on eBay that are in a constant dream world with prices. And the real funny thing is that they won't come down an inch and just keep re-listing them, sometimes with higher prices. (as if that'll make it sell LOL!)
At least this ones got a OBO on it.

I could see it going for $350 if a couple of collecors really wanted it and the right guy was auctioning it. I could also see it selling for $150 if Joe Blow put up a crappy, simple auction ( like this guy did).

While I like Petersons well enough (especially some of the older ones), enjoy them & advocate them, that one, IMO, is an example of what Russians call "**** on a shovel" -- allegedly special because of its presentation.

:face:

I tend to agree with Yak on this one. I do like the shape, but if you have to gold-plate something (like the trim on your Caddy or Lexus) that just doesn't work for me. I don't follow Petes closely, but I have not seen this series before. If you absolutely have to smoke something not many others have, here is your opportunity! I wonder what he would settle for? That seller name sure sounds familiar to me (member on PipesMag.com forums?)

I offered the seller $1,000.00 but he won't ship to South Africa. That will teach him a lesson!!!

The finish on those looks like spar varnish.
I have a Kinsale that has a finish that looks similar. When I bought it, I figured it was some fancy wax and would lose its luster. It seems to be enduring, so it may be some kind of varnish.

I would assume it's a very thin coat of Shellac and would hope that Peterson wouldn't use a Varnish or Lacquer on any of there pipes.
