THIS...was an awesome movie. Ditto Michael Collins if we're talking about the British oppresion of Ireland.

Only the other day down the pub me and the lads were complaining about the repression of the British at the hands of the Romans.

The major difference being that Rome doesn't occupy half of your Island.

Ok.. let me take 6/32 of your home and then we will debate the mathmatical exactness of how much of your stuff I have.
Don't be a douche.

Sure makes that $30, one-night-only, silly, green novelty "drinking hat" made in China seem kind of pointless.

Well, that's what the liquor is for.

Who needs history? Drink!*

(* Bud Light's new motto -- "Here We Go" had everyone wondering why they were still there when they woke up vomiting...sales plummeted)

You know "Danny Boy" was written by an English lawyer, right? You should crack a book instead of getting your history from youtube motion pictures. I'm sorry if the math crack upset you, but don't use hyperbole when arguing a point like that. You did post a politically themed thread on an international forum: you may get a contentious response or two.

Mr_Jeff, to note, PB's last response was 1/2 personal and 1/2 on-topic to the tread. Your follow-up went to 6/32 on topic, with the remainder personal--still douchey.

The Irish got boned, and are still bitter about it. As they should be.

Of course one could argue that the current Republic is occupying 26/32 of our stuff.

As I don't give a hoot about who wants to argue over a speck of green in an ocean of blue floating in an infinity of airless black which formed from a singularity approximately 13 billion years ago you can have it all and call yourself King Billy.

Hows that forum you tried to start from the BoB membership going Jeff?

13/16? :albino: The problem is, it's all still justification. Occupation is occupation, and is uncomfortable for the original inhabitants at best.

Original inhabitants?

They are all long dead and gone. But if you insist in handing the island back to the Vikings then so be it. Or did you want to go back further than that?

Arriving right on schedule is the red herring. We had fun over there while it lasted.

Original inhabitants have family, history and cultural identity, too. Not just that of the oppressive force that gets instilled. If any semblance of that (is able/allowed to/still) remain(s), there is and will be conflict.

So, you think we should explain this same fact to the Kurdish, Native Americans, Basque, etc? That their people are long dead and gone, too, as were whoever they oppressed to get there? I mean, I see your point, but if there's any folks that have claim to the land, and someone else takes it, it's uncomfortable--right and wrong are irrelevant, and it's still a poor excuse. My grandmother was full Native from North Carolina. I have family on a reservation. I see both sides of this.

On another note, we're a step ahead of the original sentiment: not blindly having a gay-ole-type drinkin' green beer to a "saint" we know nothing about and peeling ourselves off the floor the next day wondering what we're gonna tell our boss.
