I've become quite agitated with my Jobey bulldog. Unlike my other pipes, it has to be screwed into the shank, which is time consuming. Can the stem and screw piece in the shank be replaced with a standard insert stem?

That sounds like an older pipe with plumbing in it. (I.e., some old-fashioned filter system.) If that is so, the answer is NO.

The shank is largely occupied with a screw-on attachment which makes the bore very much wider than that of ordinary pipes.

I once tried to convince Mr Burak of Connoisseur pipes to remodel a very picturesque old oom-paul that my sainted late mother had given me, and he took the time to explain to me why it was impossible.

Certainly it can be replaced with a regular push in stem, but why would you want to do that? The Jobey link was an ingenious invention, allowing you to remove the stem while the pipe was being smoked or still warm from smoking. The threaded insert is to be left in the shank, and the stem can be removed by turning it. It is not intended that you unscrew the link from the pipe.

I have a Jobey pipe, and a replacement threaded insert. Can anyone tell me how to "connect" the stem to the threaded insert?

Currently I'm just pressing it on. The intended design is so that you can unscrew the stem. Seems to me like epoxy might be the way to go, but I don't want to try that without some consultation.

Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't recommend removing the stem while the pipe is still hot. I had a link separate on me that way. I pressed it back (while still warm) and it "self corrected". I am very fond of Jobey Pipes. I now have about 12 or thirteen Stombolis at last count and I'm looking for more!

That's what I have, a link that's separated from the stem. The pipe was a gift and I'd like to repair it. Any suggestions how to re-attach the Jobey link to the stem?

Thanks,

Mr. C
