I like Italian briar, but usually not the shapes particularly.  Anyone know about the Ser Jacopo "Modica" series?  I believe modica means modest in Italian.  Are they sub-standard in some way?  I ask because their size and shapes are more to my liking than the Maximas, though I do have one of the latter.  And the price is way off, which makes me wonder if they're seconds or not actually made by SJ.

Good evening,

This is what I found about the Modica series

This is a brand new pipe made by Ser Jacopo in Italy. This company has some fine craftsmen, which produce beautiful handmade pipes with great designs and shapes. This sandblasted briar pipe has an acrylic mouthpiece, 9 mm. filter.

I think their "seconds" line is Gepetto... but I dont know much about them

I am no expert, but the Gepetto line is no second. Its simply a Series of particular shapes in a rusticated finish.
I don't think the Modica line is a second series either , but the prices I have seen on them are low for the brand. I think they are intentionally a "value" line, and the few I've paid attention to seemed to be simpler shapes and sloppier work than some of their other pipes.
