I had two Servi meers, and on the whole, they seemed pretty decent. So, I ordered two more (a small and a medium bent billiard). The medium smoked ok, although an ember seemed to have got caught up and into the plastic insert, blocking it at the end (a pain to clear, as I ended up needing to poke it out with a bit of mertal, but I don't think the end of the insert was actually melted. So, after looking over the small one, I just tried it out. A one inch crack developed on the left base of the bowl, which extended up and over the stem. Hopefully the vender, Outwest http://www.outwesttobacco.com/index.html will exchange it.

edit: when they get some more in, they will send me a new one and I can return the old one on their postage.

Thank you and a 'well done' to the folks at outwest

So sad, I'm sorry you are having problems with your meers. I am sure Outwest Tobacco will exchange it for you. Ask for Gene (the owner), let him know you are a member of Brothers of Briar and that you know me (Dan). You can even use this line if you wish, "Dan said he was absolutely sure you would exchange it."
:lol!:

I'm in Outwest at least once a week as it is my local B&M. Outwest and I are also trying to work out a discount for BoB members and/or a possible monthly give away! Gene also pays for the shipping of all my BoB Bombs and usually throws in a little extra. Getting bombed by me means you also get bombed by Outwest Tobacco.

As you can see from the edit in the original post, yes, he is exchanging it. Glad it's a good B&M for you. You can pass on that he got a 'thumbs up' in the forum for that

Lol, it looks like I was too late. Glad they treated you well but I am not surprised they did. Gene and the staff at Outwest are some of the best people I know. We will make sure you get a little extra stuff shipped with your new meer as a way of saying sorry for the problems and delay. As a matter of fact if you would like, choose a tin from Outwest's inventory, let me know here on BoB what your choice is and I will make sure said free tin is shipped with your new meer if not before (depending on how long it takes for the new meer to get in).

Gene, the manager at OutWest is a great person to do business with. He exchanged a very poorly drilled Pete for me even after it was smoked. He says a bad pipe is a bad pipe.

I felt rather stupid about the crack last week, since I thought I had examined the pipe fairly well. Looking at it today, the crack was almost impossible to see. Even though I knew exactly where it was, only a small hint of the crack at the ends were visible, and then only when viewed from the correct angle.

Dr. T don't feel bad all the meers I've seen that cracked shrink back significantly after they cool. Most of them to the point that you would easily miss the crack. Glad they are taking such good care of you!

I got a surprise tin of Gawith Navy Flake from Outwest today. Since it said it was from Outwest & BoB, I wanted to add my thanks here

The replacement pipe arrived yesterday, and I will be shipping the old one off today.

The replacement, although the same model, seems to have a even slightly smaller bowl than the first. Beware the small Servi billiard, unless you were looking for a pipe that smokes in 10-15 minutes. However, that really was what I was looking for, for mornings here at work, so I am not complaining, just pointing it out. Actually, the internal bowl of 'medium' isn't that much larger, but again, I'll use it for mornings when I'm not looking for a 40-60 relaxing smoke.
