'fraid I'll take basil Rathbone any day  Was some nice pipe smoking throughout though, but the rest was a bit to disjointed for me. JMHO

Yea, I got the feeling they were trying to hard. So a disappointment for me.

Disjointed is very polite. I foolishly stuck with it to the end and would like the time back.

I dug the 1st season, but just couldn't sink my teeth into the second. Hence no reason to attempt watching the 3rd. Still love the Jeremy Brett Sherlock best.

Some other detective shows, "Luther" is great, and so is "The Fall."

I agree with you.

I agree with your first and third comments, but not the second. Only when we see Holmes get out of the carriage at the start of the movie is any pipe actually lit. Every other time, there's no smoke coming from a bowl. The pipes were character props.

Disjointed was a kind comment. It also rambled with too many predictable plot points, and I'm tired of the mind palace crap. Each season has gotten less interesting to me as they do indeed try to hard, and some times, I feel I'm watching staged theatrical hogwash for pseudo intellectuals.

Brett's my favorite, and closest to the Canon. Luther was great, ah..lovely Alice.
