This is the first pipe I've had that came with it's own publicaly known name and I think I'll keep it ! (both the pipe AND name  ) I've now put three bowls of McClelland's FM 2000 broken flake though it has been a "smoking machine" since I put the first match to it. I like how this Red Va flake puts a cake on a pipe so it's what will be smoked in it for the first month I smoke it. With my manner of smoking that i have aquired over many years, this seems to be the best manner FOR ME to break a pipe in. The "draw" in this pipe is almost non existent in the sense that you just breath and it "draws" with no thought on your part. Most of my Charatans and BBB's have been this way and it's not what I have encountered with many others.
I took my well dried/rubbed out flake and loaded it 3 pinch style struck a match and the bac almost lit itself from my breathing. Another match to "make sure" (wasn't really needed) and we were off !! Like I said, the manner that this pipe is made just allows one to 'Breath" and the Red Va's just sing in the bowl!! It's a nice wide shallow bowl as Pots are and the 'bac burns evenly across it and except for my setting it down twice for 10 min. each time, I've gootten almsor 2 3/4 hours of pure joy out of each bowl since ! The bowl did get slightly "warm" during it's first two times but never "hot" but I would expect that from a pipe that was not "broken in" and did not have any cake in the bowl. It hangs effortlessly in my mouth with very little effort of "clenching" due to it's proportions and wieght.
All in all, this has been probaly one of if not the most IMPRESSIVE "baptisms" for a new pipe I've ever had the pleasure of ! If I had enough disposable income, I would be sending Brian a standing order for one of his pipes for each month for the next decade at least :p He is WAAAAAY above being an Artison pipe maker, no, he's a MASTER CRAFTSMAN of the pipe world !! :p

I'm glad to hear you are enjoying your Growley pipe! I'm just about to light up one of mine with a nice English blend. You are dead on with the "breathe" comment. Good pipes smoke just as naturally as breathing. I cracks me up to see amatuers sucking on the stem of a pipe as if it were a straw in a milkshake.

Better start saving your nickels and dimes now for another one of Growley's pipes. I'm happy I got some of his work before it became too expensive for me!

Quit trying to separate yourself from the "artisan pipe owner" label, Mon. Just quit it. You know it, we know it, you ain't foolin' us. :p

Glad to hear it's performing beyond expectations, though. :)

The "Slim Shady" name is great, unless you've had the generational "privilege" of having that god-awful piece of...(music?) stuck in your head at some point. Ugh.

I have no problem with being labeled something, but for me the appelation "artison" is what is applied to those folks who travel around with SUV's full of "crafty/artison" stuff and sell 'em at those weekend fairs. Brian is so far above that ( as is ANY master pipe maker) that I refuse to call him THAT. MASTER PIPE CRAFTSMAN describes him and others sooooo much better IMHO

You mean it's been semantics all along?! LOL!

Thats a great pipe, for sure, Monbla. You totally deserve it and I hope it continues to bring you immense pleasure through the years!

Wow, I have been tied up working and just realized I missed the big award unveiling. Congrats Monbla. Very deserving. No Royal Yuck in the pipe though. Not sure even Growley's pipe could withstand that.

Great pipe and happy to hear you are enjoying it!

"This Pipe Show Parking Spot Reserved For: Monbla." :p

The little people will scramble out of your way, heads bowed.

Who am I fooling? It's all jealousy coming from me. I admit it. :D
