Am I crazy for enjoying straight full flavored burleys that are "supposed" to be for blending??

I just bought some P.S. Light Burley and also some very dark (scale of 1-5 is a 5) dark fire cured burley. I am enjoying them both by themselves.. perhaps being a cigar smoker affects my refinement?

David

Stokkebye pressed burley (ps702) is a fantastic straightforward burley, as is C&D's cubed burley. There are others that are basic, simple burleys which are cased but remain pretty noncomplex and are excellent as well.

Uhle's Perfection plug, Crushed white burley, blend 255.
Peretti's Burley plug cut.
Wessex Burley slices.

I love the 702!

But I am also enjoying a rather heavy burley too from P&C "Blending - Dark Fired Kentucky Burley"

just loving the full flavor and oaty fullness.. the vit N is nice too after a long day :)

You're not crazy at all. There are some of us for whom Vas are just to hard to smoke I try always to keep some on hand' to tame really hot blends. Some grand advice for you as long as you're enjoying it who gives a flip what anyone else thinks.

Enjoy it in rude good health sir

I recently developed a thing for 5 Brothers. I decided to try it after smoking Semois because I wanted to understand what plain simple burley was like. Maybe some blending tobbaco would have been a better choice. Either way, I'm in the same burley boat and think we should just enjoy the ride.
Mike.

Perhaps not as heavy, I have taken a liking to C&D's Bulk Burley Ribbon lately.
Originally I used it to tone down (mask) the Lakelands in SB blends (please, no flames), but found it to be a decent straight smoke, too.

We are of the same age and therefore I will take your advice rather than that of a youngster!

I smoke VA's and VaPers almost exclusively. I would like to try a pure Burley tobacco which won't act like a blowtorch on my tongue. I'm going to order some baccy from 4noggins today. Please tell me which burley I should try! And I thank you, my bro'

i haven't dealt with 4 noggins altho i plan on remedying that soon--
i have an idea that any pure untreated burley may be a bit much--my choices lie in blends that have a great burley base and other tobaccos acting as condiments--
i must admit my favorite blend for the past several years is C&D's Big and Burley--a word of warning tho--the perique is rather noticeable at lightup--but don't be put off--it settles down and becomes a tasty and relaxing experience--

4 nogs has a blending burley listed in their bulk section called Dark Burley--if i were ordering, that would likely be the choice i would make--if you choose that one i hope i haven't steered you wrong--

good luck
WB

Ok something very very odd I noticed.

SP has a "dark Burley" listed on scale of 1-5 as a 4.
They also list the Kentucky Fired Burley as a 5..which i would expect. but man the dark burley tears at my throat until halfway through the bowl (not sure if this is a good thing or very very bad..lol .. ie. my throat has gone numb from damage??) but the dark fired is much smoother.

Anyone explain this or reason why a Fired would be less rough?

Thanks

D

p.s. just picked up 4 oz of KK Burley to try :)
