Quick question. My husband has a huge patch of sneeze weed in the yard. Should I be harvesting the blooms for snuff? If so, how do I process it once its dry? Anyone ever tried this before?

I had to Google Sneezeweed to make sure you weren't pulling my leg. :p A couple of sites claim it was traditionally used to induce sneezing in order to ward off evil spirits. Are you fraught by such spirits? This sounds to me like an old folk remedy that's better left in the past. While snuffing does occasionally cause one to sneeze, that's not the purpose of doing it. In fact, that's sort of how you spot a newby snuffer, like someone choking on his own pipe smoke. "Inducing sneezing" seems a bit like "giving yourself a rash".
Pardon my teasing. If you absolutely must do this, I imagine it would be processed much like tobacco snuff, which is simply thoroughly dried and finely ground leaf. I really wouldn't recommend it, though. It sounds rather unpleasant.

I have actually heard that this is what snuff is made of. I should have done some checking before I posted. I guess it would be a great gag....if I were the mean sort. :joker:

At least they are beatiful flowers. I'll leave them in the yard.

There you go! Like that old joke gum for grown-ups. Rather immature grown-ups. Although "sneezing the spirits away" is a hopelessly old fashioned remedy, mentholated snuff is still used by some to clear the sinuses, and I've heard it works well to combat allergies, as well. In Europe it's often referred to as "medicated" snuff.
