A couple of weeks ago a mystery package arrived. Upon opening it I found a really cool large billiard with a note from JP. He was smoking this pipe on his way to work and was moved by the spirit to give it to me. Said he knew I'd appreciate it, and he was right. It's a modern Kaywoodie, but a replica of a version they put out in the early 20th century - the Thorn series. I'd guess it's about 6 1/2" X 2" and a group 5, nicely rusticated (very nicely done, actually) and with a nice acrylic bit. Good open draw! This pipe smokes cool and dry, is comfortable, and looks quite handsome. I have one other Kaywoodie - also a gift from JP from the secret Santa program, and I have to admit that they are good pipes. This particular Thorn is a cut above, smokes on par with my Stanwells, fit and finish is very nice, and I have to say that these are quite worth collecting. I've been eyeballing some of their limited edition pipes (they put out a tan sandblasted large dublin a couple years back that looks great) and may just have to put up a small rack of them.

Awesome! Timeless shape, venerable brand, and a very classy move by JP.

Those limited KWs with the acrylic bits are very nice. (I like the old ones even better, but it's an apples/oranges comparison, I like 'em both.)

I only have 2 Kaywoodies from the Chessman series back in the '80's. I don't smoke them enough as they are both really nice pipes. That one is particularly handsome with the rustication wrapping all the way up around the rim.

JP is certainly a very thoughtful and generous fellow.

It just goes to show you what a good heart the guy has. JP and I have been on opposing ends of some pretty heated political discussions here, but never have we let it go beyond a point where we can remain friendly and respectful of each other afterwards (given much of our rubber room banter, many here would probably be surprised to hear that we both like and respect each other). He's always been quick to be respectful, caring and generous, as are a great number of guys here on BoB. This is a great place and JP has been great to a lot of guys here. I thought it was about time he got a big atta boy for it :D

JP, you've got a heart of gold!

PD, a fine looking pipe, you'll get hours of pleasure out of her! :D

Did he throw in some Walnut?
Now why ya wanna go and ruin an otherwise perfect story?!
   No tobacco, just a totally God inspired pipe thing!

It was every bit my pleasure and in this case as PD mentioned devine providence, and I mean that!

The sentiments are mutual! That is what makes America so great and a brotherhood like this priceless! At the end of the day we all love each other! I know I am a little rough around the edges and pretty vocal about my beliefs but it doesn't change how I feel in my heart about my brothers.

You and me both!

Special place with special people eh... That's what they told me about school before they plunked a helmet on me and sent me off on the short bus. I don't miss it, well except for the forks with the corks.. Those were cool. And those neat white jackets the teachers would put on us... Kinda funny story.. They always put them on us backwards, and people thought WE were retarded, duh.
