Stanwell Fisherman pipe.

A friend from a bamboo fly fishing forum recently purchased a Stanwell shape #167 and it has a leaping fish engraved on the bowl. While we think it is factory done there was some doubt on that so he asked if I could inquire if any were familiar, or had seen similar, with this particular pipe. Thanks in advance.

I have never seen one with that carving like that, but that doesn't mean it's not original. Pretty neat shape which was designed by Jess Chonowitsch.

Thanks doc, he knew it was a Jess design and it smokes great, he just couldn't pass on it with the fish being a fly fisherman.

I have a Stanwell Baseball with a baseball player engraved on the bowl. The shank is also engraved with "Baseball". Your friend should look whether his pipe is also engraved (see bottom of shank).

Btw, I'm not a baseball fan, I only bought the pipe on eBay because I'm a Stanwell fan. It was NOS and I got it for a fair price.

Thanks for that, his is engraved Fisherman's at the bottom of the shank. Warm regards....
